Noir and Expresso

A panel from Jim Steranko's 1976 graphic
novel Red Dawn.
I got up this morning and decided to put a pot of coffee on. First odd
thing that happened was that since I only drink about one cup of coffee
anyway I filled the pot halfway with water and poured it in the machine.
Second odd thing was the coffee itself, given to me by a neighbor, almost
freshly ground and with a smell to it like you only get standing too close
to some active volcano. I didn't measure it, I just poured it onto the
filter. Then I turned on the machine and walked away.
About half an hour later I went back to the machine. But something had
happened. Something bad. The housing for the coffee had somehow slid
off to the side a little, just enough that the water hadn't flowed through
into the pot right. I adjusted the housing, pushing it into place with my
finger. The coffee flooded into the pot, fast, and when it did I found out
another weird thing -- the pot had only been one-quarter full of water,
not half.
So as it turned out the coffee was Expresso strength. Not the kind you
get at the coffee place on your way to work with their wimp-ass Expresso,
but the real Mediterranean/Arab stuff. This stuff was black and thick like
motor oil and strong enough to get the dead going on a cold, dark morning.
I took a few sips. Then added lots of cream.

Well, I must say that we are used to Greek/Turkish coffee here, it is usuall stuff in Serbia. I put a sugar and a little cream too, but people usually drink it straight or with a little sugar.
Two years ago, when I was in Japan, I tried their espresso, it was
No need to say I left it after only one sip

Mornin' just ain't mornin' until ya' smell the coffee bein' brewed.

I remember a scene from a Clint Eastwood movie where he's sitting at a bar drinking coffee and this fight starts; lots of broken jaws and smashed furniture. He just remains cool, sipping his coffee while the room is going mad with violence, until somebody knocks his coffe cup over. Five minutes later he's the only one standing in the room.
I totally relate to this.

I am proud of you for being in control,
I never had any problem with it
my problem is I always have to be in control
and that at times robs me from loosening up.

Martin, both the first and of the second halves of that...just great.
@ Angeliki.
I'll take the Greek, as long as it is in those tiny little cups! I love the feel of picking one of those tiny cups up and sipping on it.
And you know, even though it is 8:03 pm, I think I'll make a cup of that volcanic expresso.

I just got this new kitchen appliance for the making of smoothies and juice. And with my father supplying me with apples I guess I'm in for a healthy christmas this year!
It's 08:33 here, which means it's time for my first coppa coffee!
Skål!
And, Darko, youre right. I remember another scene from thast film where Eastwood and Reynolds are in a gunfight on the street and The Clint just walks down the middle of the street shooting the bad guys one by one while Reynolds is hiding behind a dumpster. Cool.

Hardly slept at all last night after getting back from my trip. I kept getting up looking for things. It seems family members took it upon themselves to clean and rearrange my home more to their liking. I guess, in their eyes, I have too much clutter. They have now arranged it so I can have guests. Who said anything about guests? I had everyone over for goulash in August. My house wasn't welcoming then? Makes me never want to leave my home. Sorry, I'm in kind of a troubling bad mood. It seems they had a family dinner and were talking about me while I was gone. I'm rarely in a bad mood and I don't like it. Especially when I'm thinking of changing my locks.
edwardpiercy # 19. November 2008, 19:52
I'll take the mess. And the goulash.
Hope you had a good trip to ND and I hope to see photos soon. No hurry really -- thanks to the marvelous new "improvements" Opera doesn't seem to be uploading photos to posts anyway.

I didn't take too many photos. Just some odd ball things.
The daughter I was visiting is actually the 'neatnik' in the family. She has helped me many a time but she is much more diplomatic about it and doesn't just throw stuff out without asking.
It's funny, I just tried calling two of the people to ask what happened to something I was looking for and suddenly no one is available. Back to going through the trash and recycle bins. I'm sure the neighbors must think I am nuts emptying them out.

congratulations Pam for choosing to live longer!!! *hugs*
welcome back
Aqualion # 20. November 2008, 00:04
I kling on to smoking, though. As long as possible. I'm settled. I accept the risk of shorter life span and early death. I've already been technically dead three times and next time I go there I intent not to return. Don't feel sorry for me. I happen to know that there's nothing to fear when it comes to dying. My family and friends know how I feel about this and they accept and respect my choice.
Death wish? So be it.
If coffee don't get me first, that is!

Anyway, looks like I'm not going to be blogging for a few days until they get the frigging problem fixed.
