Sasha's 1st Birthday Party

,

Yesterday was my dog Sasha's first birthday. I invited
Charisse and "the girls" -- her dachshunds Annabelle
and Lexie -- over for a birthday party. Charisse brought
Sasha a new toy as a present, a Squeaky Chipmunk. She
also brought some 100 percent natural doggie treats
that Sasha didn't like at all. But all the dogs liked
the cheese cubes that I served. You betcha.

We also had party balloons up, which my mom blew
up herself and tied. Then we both put them together
with string and taped them up.

Linda from upstairs gave her a new purple squeaky bone.
Unfortunately, Linda couldn't make it. Me and my mom
gave Sasha a new Sqeaky Piggie to replace the old one
which is on its last days.

The party was scheduled for 3:00. Beforehand I gave
Sasha a good brushing and she was looking very beautiful
and shiny for her party. Charisse and the girls arrived
almost exactly on time. Annabelle mostly just laid on
the couch, whereas Lexie took a liking to Sasha's
old Squeaky Fuzzy Bone and tried her best to rip the
thing apart. As for Sasha she was very excited not to
say manic throughout the event. At one point she did
a little bit of wrestling with Charisse and the rest
of the time just ran around all over the couch and
loveseat with her new Squeaky Chipmunk. Towards the
end we sang Happy Birthday to her.

Dealing with 3 dachshunds is quite the challenge. And
afterward I was exhausted and definitely needed lunch
and then a good nap.

I apologize for the crappy photos. Taking decent
pictures of constantly moving dogs and people really
requires a good DSLR where you can set Shutter Priority
to a fast shutter. So pretty much all the pictures are
blurry. And in fact the only one that didn't come out
blurry, by sheer coincidence, was one that I took with
my cell phone camera.

It's hard to believe my little girl is 1 year old
already. It seems like only yesterday I was taking
her home, so tiny and hugging my shoulder.

The only halfway decent picture of Sasha I got
on her birthday, taken just before the party.

Charisse and Annabelle.

Lexie.

The birthday presents, l. to r.,
Squeaky Chipmunk, Purple Bone, and
Squeaky Piggie #3.

Thanks, Pam! Sasha sends kisses! flirt

L2D2 11. July 2009, 19:07

I have never given my pets a birthday party, but have given Christmas presents. Looks like a good time was had by all, and the pictures are not bad.

ricewood 11. July 2009, 19:09

I find it hard to imagine that it's been a year already, too.

Scratch her on the belly from me, will you?

edwardpiercy 11. July 2009, 19:19

@ Linda.

Linda, it wore me out. Seriously. No more birthday parties for Sasha -- until next year! p:

@ Allan.

I will do that.

And you know, this whole thing has me hunting for a new camera with Shutter Priority. I don't want to miss Sasha growing up simply becuase all the pictures are blurred. I saw an actual D1 a while back for a couple hundred bucks and it would work with my F100 lenses.

But other things have to take priority -- like a new laptop.

ricewood 11. July 2009, 19:24

A D1? The original, old Nikon? Sounds grand!

edwardpiercy 11. July 2009, 19:27

Yep, the one and only. Low MPs, but I don't need high ones for the blog and small prints. Also way too heavy for me to carry around these days, but I would only be using it at home anyway.

ricewood 11. July 2009, 19:32

It's almost ten years old, which is a hell of a lot when it comes to digicams - and I have never owned one. I guess, though, that it will work better than the average small camera of today.

edwardpiercy 11. July 2009, 19:43

Yeah, I was looking at like the P6000 or even the Canon G10. But that's almost $500 US for a camera that, for what I would be using it for, I don't think would be any better.

I have heard about some color balance issues on the D1 as opposed to the D2, but there's a guy on the internet who gives a quick Photoshop correction for that.

And I would need a cheap flash, of course. I imagine I could get that used too.

You know the ISO on the D1 goes up to 1600? Amazing for its day.

Well anyway, issues for another day. Another month. Maybe even another year.

ricewood 11. July 2009, 19:55

"You know the ISO on the D1 goes up to 1600? Amazing for its day"

Well, depends on the noise.

Good luck with it, another day, month or year.

Hugs and kisses to Sasha, and a big hug to you and Mama Piercy for putting it all together for her. Every little girl should have exciting birthday parties.

edwardpiercy 11. July 2009, 21:13

@ Darko

Rare, medium rare, or well done? :D

@ Star

Star, I wish you could have been there. It was like a riot at a women's prison. Except with dachshunds. p:

Sloppy kisses from Sasha!

gdare 11. July 2009, 21:16

Medium rare, thanks :D

Stardancer 11. July 2009, 21:27

My birthday is coming up soon, and I'm thinkin' I'll buy a big bottle of bubbles to celebrate. You know, that colored soapy water stuff with the plastic wand that makes soap bubbles when you blow on it? Or maybe get some silly string and make my neighbors really, really, really mad at me.

edwardpiercy 11. July 2009, 22:29

@ Darko

:D okay!

@ Star

Bubbles. I love those. I got some for Baron once and he barked at them. p:

I don't think the bubbles are as good these days. They changed the formula so that kids wouldn't poison themselves and they changed the loop so kids wouldn't choke to death on it.

I mean, what's this world coming to?

Stardancer 11. July 2009, 23:08

My dad had a dog once that would play with balloons. He would jump up and poke them with his nose, to keep them from hitting the ground, over and over and over again. Once they hit the ground, he'd pop them. Then he'd run to Dad and beg him to blow up another balloon.

edwardpiercy 11. July 2009, 23:27

I think I would have liked your dad's dog!
