The Case of the Mayor's Mini-Skirt

,

Mayor Stu Rasmussen.

(Photo by Kimberly A.C. Wilson/The Oregonian.)

This isn't really Spokane news, but it's close enough.

Mayor Stu Rasmussen, the first transgender mayor of Silverton, Oregon
and as far as anybody can determine the first transgender mayor anywhere,
has come under some strong criticism lately. It seems he wore a mini-skirt
and a tank top to a meeting with local teens. And while Rasmussen's dress
has generally been accepted in Silverton, some say that the mini and
tank went too far and that he should save such dress for when he is
off work.

Of course, I don't know when a mayor is really ever "off work." And
while it is true that various companies often have a dress code, it's
debatable what the dress code for a small-town mayor should be. And
let's just say that a mini-skirt wouldn't exactly shock a group of teens.

Up to this point Rasmussen has been said by pretty much everbody to be
an outstanding mayor.

Not that it makes any difference, but Rasmussen identifies himself as
a "heterosexual male."

So...does that make him a lesbian?

"So...does that make him a lesbian?"

I don`t know :left:

Edward Piercy 26. July 2009, 18:54

Maybe we should fix him up with Kirsten Dunst. Kirsten likes to wear minis, too.

:D

Darko 26. July 2009, 19:00

I would rather look at Kirsten wearing mini than to him... her... whatever.... :left:

Edward Piercy 26. July 2009, 19:03

I suppose I would too. I wonder if there's any chance that Kirsten would run for mayor of Spokane? p:

L2D2 26. July 2009, 19:19

If he's a he, why is he dressed in public as a she? A he/she is not a heterosexual male.

Edward Piercy 26. July 2009, 19:21

I don't understand all of the psychological stuff like that. I guess the important thing is that somehow he/she knows what he/she is and what he/she wants.

Allan 26. July 2009, 21:02

Denmark's former prime minister was Anders Fogh Rasmussen. Our present prime minister is Lars Lokke Rasmussen. Now we're looking at a mayor by the name of Stu Rasmussen.

What's the matter with those Rasmussens?

I'd say that being a transgender person doesn't matter much faced with these serious circumstances.

Edward Piercy 26. July 2009, 21:14

:D

Maybe it's some sort of undiscovered gene thing.

I'm glad Spokane's mayor isn't named Nixon. That would be like some really bad acid trip from the past.

Allan 26. July 2009, 21:16

I'd very much doubt that anyone by that name would be elected for anything at all.

Edward Piercy 26. July 2009, 21:20

Most likely not!

Not to mention anybody named Adolph Hitler. Talk about a career killer. p:

Allan 26. July 2009, 21:21

Hitler? Was he a crook??

Edward Piercy 26. July 2009, 21:24

No. Just an another artist gone bad.

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 02:09

when the world is facing major problems like
the HIV epidemic, peace, searching for the cancer cure, hunger in Africa, global warming,
I find it simply idiotic for people staring at a mans or womans legs and length of skirt...
I just hope the time will come we all see what really matters

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 02:19

Angeliki, I would have to agree.

Except for Hillary's pants suits.

p:

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 02:24

 New Yorkers are with you on that!

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 02:37

Ah damn. I got another of those "format unsupported" things when I tried to run it. I'll have to look it tomorrow with the laptop.

So did you get that good dinner you were hoping for last night? (I really don't know if you are getting my tweets or not as I'm not sure I'm doing it right.)

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 02:40

I did not get the tweet Eddie, :frown: sorry honey boy!
yes, I did have the dinner yesterday,
I had the bubble bath tonight and I have the day off tomorrow...

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 02:43

PS
Eddie do yourself a favor and get a 60 feet cable for a 25.00USD you can have your lap top in your bedroom too... (I do not mention wireless since I know it will not work for you)

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 02:57

That big clunker laptop I have now I won't bring into The Cave until I get the new one. Which hopefully is only one or two months away. Then I'll bring the old one in here to do fiction with no internet distractions. In fact I was saying to Richard when he was here that I might have to take a few months off here soon to do another novel. I'd like to find a way to blog and write, but I'm the type that has to hit it 24/7 or it doesn't finish.

Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong on Twitter with those directs! :frustrated:

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 03:00

don;t worry Eddie,
I will find a way to check them,
when there is a will there is a way!
you know me I can be stubborn if I have to!

I might need to follow your example,
I need to finish the blanket I knit and I have toteach a Chase Morgan Bank CEO Greek, that alone will take some time out of my schedule. The money is good and I enjoy teaching immensely.

L2D2 27. July 2009, 03:05

I joined Twitter, looked around for about 10 minutes, left terribly confused and never went back. Felt like I was being chased, but I didn't know who to chase myself. Skeered me to death!

L2D2 27. July 2009, 03:06

Years ago I worked with a young woman who was married to a Rasmussen. Name isn't all that common in these parts.

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 03:19

@ Angeliki.

What a great thing to teach what you love. I know you will be a great teacher.

@ Linda.

I mainly joined Twitpic so I could moblog photos closer to real-time. Twitter just cme along with it. I'm enjoying it so far, being able to just do quicks hits. Although so far I think half my pics have been of Sasha!

Rasmussen is much more common here due to the Scandinavian influence that moved across the northern US from Wisconsin and Minnesota (mostly).

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 03:27

:o: thanks,

both my kids never went to a Greek school but both are in a High school level in reading and writing.
I taught them

Yanni was working at the museum while in school because of his multi lingual knowledge
(he still does, now because of his young age gets up to 30 hours a week).

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 03:35

You know there are some Inuit that came to New York and were pretty much "housed" at the MNH but they quickly died. As far as I know their bodies are still there. Tell Yannis to watch out for Inuit ghosts!

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 04:10

he is not working at the MNH but he/we visited so many times,I think the ghosts know we are regulars
there are just a few museums I did not visit yet in NYC,
considering the great amount of them
I can feel  of what I have seen so far...
I love that Americans visit museums,
Greeks do too

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 04:31

Well please wish Yannis good luck for me anyway even with no ghosts.

"Greeks do too"

Athens is kinda like one huge museum. p:

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 05:17

very true!
did you read my post about the underground meseum in Athens?
http://my.opera.com/ellinidata/blog/a-museum-tour-underground-th-athens-metro-in-greece

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 05:46

That's a great structure. And you know with all of the many details I think the one that impressed me the most was no advertising. What a wonderful ideal that is. And I do mean ideal, not idea! Because they put ideals before money.

L2D2 27. July 2009, 08:41

L2D2 27. July 2009, 08:45

Edward, this is my only contribution to cheesecake. Me at about 19. The thing between my breasts was a ring on a chain. Just in case you wondered.

L2D2 27. July 2009, 08:46

5'3 1/2", 36-23-36

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 13:50

HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Linda you will have Eddie take cold showers p:

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 13:53

Eddie,

it is nice to know that all findings remained in the locations they were found..
plus the poor workers that usually have not time or the extra money to visit the sites,
they can see the Ancient Culture
and a piece of art at the same time
when using the subway

PainterWoman 27. July 2009, 15:03

Don't know if there are any Rasmussen's here in Phoenix but it does seem to be a draw for transgender folks. I see quite a few whenever I go to First Fridays. I don't go during the summer because the evenings do not cool off enough. But I will start going again in September.

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 15:33

@ Linda.

w00t! Cheesecake is certainly welcomed. I'll have to come back later and look at the photo "in more detail" as right now am on the phone. More later.

@ Angeliki.

I once had a idea to build a small hotel that looks just like Knossos in its heyday. Except maybe in Utah. p:

@ Pam.

I don't remember much of anything like that when I lived there. In terms of art or transgenderists!

Although I did see these gay Indians that would come into this one 7-11 all the time. I always wondered how tough it must be being in a double minority like that. I guess the future anthropologist in me coming out.

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 15:47

hey I had a post with mosaics from Knossos too!

are you tired of my posts yet? p:

http://my.opera.com/ellinidata/blog/art-mosaic

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 15:55

Now that one I remember!

B.A. = before Angeliki

A.A. = after Angeliki

p:

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 15:58

I have a sexy Venus from you there!
and you did see my feet for the first time !
or maybe for a second...
I think the first time was on this one:
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb107/ellinidata/Opera/1zyycs0-1.jpg

Angeliki 27. July 2009, 15:59

PS

did we turn this post to "no return?"

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 16:05

OMG feet again!

That's it, I'm getting out of bed a having a smoke!

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 18:47

@ Linda.

Well now that I see the pic on the laptop -- that's a double w00t! You were really babe'in there!

:D

Darko 27. July 2009, 19:06

+1

L2D2 27. July 2009, 21:49

Thanks guys. Isn't it a shame that our bodies don't

get to a certain age, like 30 or 40 maybe, then quit changing physically? What a beautiful world it would be.

Edward Piercy 27. July 2009, 21:54

Ah, we'd probably just be too full of ourselves then. I mean, wisely experienced AND good looking? As Matt says, "I'm just sayin'.....".

Not that I wouldn't do it in a heartbeat if I could get my damn Magic Lamp to workin.

Angeliki 28. July 2009, 01:28

Linda I will never fix anything on me ,
I find most of the ladies I know get so much botox
and fix so many things
they never enjoy what nature blessed them with!
growing older it is as beautiful as a woman expecting a child,
the body changes and each changes celebrates life!

L2D2 28. July 2009, 02:18

I could say that when I was in my 40s, cause I still looked good, but not now.

Angeliki 28. July 2009, 02:25

I took my young to a burn unit the other day,
it might sound unusual to many that we voluneer so much but I grew up with a mom in medical research, to me life wouldn't be worthy without being involved with people in need. When we walked in she was not comfortable, after 30minutes , she gave me a hug and she said "I will never complain about my looks again"
I turned and said, these people are not either, they are glad to be alive! Beauty we see in magazines and TV is not real.
Beauty is us, and that does not measure in numbers....

Darko 28. July 2009, 05:07

Last year I spent some time in hospital for checking my own health (I posted about it last summer) and saw a lot of kids and young people in different stages of cancer - some of them recovering and some of them, unfortunately, not.
I thought how much happy I am to be healthy and without problems of that kind.
I don`t care about getting old and how I do look like. Body changes. Soul stays :D

L2D2 28. July 2009, 06:16

Good attitude, Dare.
