Pat Maginess: Private-Eye

Hard Shelled Detective Fiction by Edward Piercy

Emily's Rope

Floss won't save you from an Abyss
But a Rope will --
Notwithstanding a Rope for a Souvenir
Is not beautiful --

But I tell you every step is a Trough --
And every stop a Well --
Now will you have the Rope or the Floss?
Prices reasonable --

-- Emily Dickinson [Johnson 1322]

I prefer Rope. Much more versatile.

:D

edwardpiercy 21. September 2009, 21:34

 True.

You know I was just thinking -- an old movie western, and a bunch of cowboys sitttin on their horses, and one says "Get some floss!"

Not quite the same thing. p:

Stardancer 21. September 2009, 21:45

No, it ain't.

L2D2 21. September 2009, 22:03

Rope ever time. Can you see roping a steer with floss?

edwardpiercy 21. September 2009, 23:23

Maybe a tiny little fairy calf. Flossed by tiny elf cowboys.

Stardancer 21. September 2009, 23:53

Didn't they make a movie about that?

:D

L2D2 22. September 2009, 00:13

Was that "Lasso the Leprechaun"? "Toss the Floss?"Loop the Little People?:eyes:

edwardpiercy 22. September 2009, 00:38

Stardancer 22. September 2009, 01:18

PS
I wasn't sure if you wanted Emily's picture or not,
here she is when very young:

edwardpiercy 22. September 2009, 03:21

Thanks for Emily! I'll fix it tomorrow!

Watching season premier of House and trying to get a damn photo of my eggplant and the casserole I made to upload to Twitpic -- it keeps nulling out! p:issedoff:

Hey your show Madmen won best Drama Emmy.

Aqualion 22. September 2009, 04:02

It's 5:58 AM, and I just left my bed after the first dream I've had for perhaps a month (and weird too), to read this line of comments. Somebody once said the best way to start your day is with a good laugh. You guys just made my day.

L2D2 22. September 2009, 04:21

Glad to help Aqualion. :D I can be silly any time of day or night.

I rarely remember any dream, but when I do, it is a weird or unpleasant one.

edwardpiercy 22. September 2009, 04:47

Glad then that we are around to help, Martin.

I had a dream about Kirsten Dunst once. A VERY good dream. Why can't more dreams be like that one?

Did she have a rope in her hands? :left:

edwardpiercy 22. September 2009, 05:04

She had a tad of golden floss...nevermind.

:D

gdare 22. September 2009, 05:27

And you were both on bed....

:D

edwardpiercy 22. September 2009, 05:30

A couch.

L2D2 22. September 2009, 05:53

And you engaged in a bit of bondage involving floss, right?

edwardpiercy 22. September 2009, 06:16

Nah nah nah, nothing kinky. -- floss or otherwise. Although I did play her a song on my guitar. Which is pretty warped considering that I don't play the guitar or sing. But I guess she appreciated the effort anyway. Or maybe Kirsten is tone deaf or something.

Aqualion 22. September 2009, 06:27

Which reminds me of that Tori Amos/Sheryl Crowe dream I had once. Neither of them were singing. Otherwise, they were very helpfull even towards eachother...

L2D2 22. September 2009, 06:37

Humph. To both of you.

gdare 22. September 2009, 08:50

gdare 22. September 2009, 08:51

We call it "wet dreams" here in Serbia

Yeah, they call it the same in U.S., Dare. Guess that is universal!
