CJ, thanks for the heads up. It took me a while to figure out what you mean. I think you mean that it shouldn't go on a regular post or it will eventually scroll off. In that case, there's nothing to worry about due to the fact that the thumbnail is part of a Sticky Post that always stays right where it is...second post on the main page.

It seems to be working, counting. If there was some other consideration that I'm just not getting, let me know. -- EDWARD

Aaah - the Earl of Essex's Galliard. Lovely song, but I have to say that Sting's performance is pretty poor compared to Martyn Hill's lovely rendition with Anthony Rooley's Consort of Musicke. Sometimes it pays to have a true trained voice!

Not having heard that one, I will defer to your greater knowledge! But in the meantime...

UPDATE: Went to B&N and listened to a teaser of the performance you mention with the Consort of Musike. He has a very nice voice indeed, but to be honest the tempo is so slow that I think I would have fallen asleep if I had listened to the entire song. Sting's version may not have the better voice but I think it sounds more inspired. Just my opinion, of course.

I guess it is what I am used to! Actually, I'm very happy that a pop artist like Sting decides to record such material because it is going to reach a great many more ears through his voice than it ever would via the rather esoteric world of early music artists. It is music that has never been surpassed.

Oh I LOVE Glenn Gould! I have the recordings (on vinyl) he did of the Bach Preludes and Fugues and love the way, if you listen carefully, you can hear him singing the various melodies! I lived in Toronto while he was alive and recording and he inspired me to play a lot more of the Bach 48 P & F than I would have otherwise!

They say there's one of his pianos in the library in Toronto. You ever seen it? I always wanted to get there to see it.

Yep, a whole trip to Toronto, just to see one piano. I guess that makes me a fan.

I wasn't aware of his piano in Toronto. I'll check with my dad and see which library it's in. I'll have to go and see it next trip. When I do, I'll be sure to take a picture! I have seen his home, quite a modest reddish brick house very similiar to the house I lived in. I spent many happy hours at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and always hoped I would meet Mr. Gould. Never happened though.
