Rolling and tumbling

Today I am convinced, I have to get a new car. Strange sounds are to be heard from the engine.

A new car so what? Once being a very simple matter of finding and choosing, it has now become a full time job of financial and political decisions and social interaction.

First the very simple questions. Do I really need a car? Yes I do, 250 km a day to get to and fro from work is an argument good enough. So, having passed 60 a couple of years till retirement, do I really need one, yes again! And now your down to the really tricky questions. There are are a lot precautions you have to take nowadays; economy, it is very expensive to own and drive a car, environment; cars means a very heavy strain on the environment and finally, security; it is very dangerous to drive a car, you meet other people in ways you don´t wish for, and living on the countryside there are the deers, elks, foxes, badgers that fills up the verges every morning.

Even if you have made up your mind on all these issues, then you have the aesthetics; what kind of shape, color, big, medium small, sporty, family, practical, make-a-statement-type of car, Alfa, Volvo, KIA, Geely, well well there are a lot to think about. And you´re not half way through yet, because you have to make these decisions together with the family, every issue once again and then, you have to convince your banker that the time is right for the loan. To what interestrate? An the at last you go to the shop. What if you don´t like the way the salesman looks? His smell? His taste of ties? His smile? Well the trouth is that you never just buy a car, you also buys a relation, to the car, to your family and to the car repair workshop, and to the insurancecompany and to the devil himself and his aunt.

Somtimes in my late hours of despair I cry and beg for the return of old Henry Ford. "You can get any color you want as long as it is black."
