Testing VMWare ESXi

Today, I tested VMWare ESXi just for learning purpose. The hardwares, include 2 hosts, 1 VirtualCenter server, and 1 VI client. They all combined together into one network using a switch.
First, I've installed VMWare ESXi and performed initial configuration to the both hosts. For initial configuration, I've only configured the root password, and the static IP address. These are the network topology and the addressing scheme for my Virtual Infrastructure:

VirtualCenter server
10.0.1.254 /24
Host A
10.0.1.253 /24
Host B
10.0.1.252 /24
VI client
10.0.1.1 /24
The next part is VirtualCenter server installation using VMWare Infrastructure 3 CD-ROM. The VirtualCenter requires a database and I'm happy enough with the free Microsoft SQL server 2005 express from the CD. The installation wizard then asked about a license. Because I just want to try it, I've just check the option for evalution. The VirtualCenter installation wizard then asked for the IP address, administrator user name, and administrator password of the server.
After that I've installed VI client on a PC. Probably it will a lot more convenient if I've just installed the VI client on a laptop, which I don't have one yet
. The next part is connecting to VirtualCenter server using the VI client. To log in to the server, the client require the IP address, user name, and password of the server.Because I haven't configured the VirtualCenter server before, I have to create a datacenter and added both my hosts to it. I've provided the IP address, user name, and password for each hosts to be added to the datacenter.
The last part is virtual machine installations for both hosts. I was using Vyatta virtual appliance that I've downloaded before. It's done.
^_^ nice
