the (fourth?) time's a charm

Various stuffs of the day

So. That "clean install" of Ubuntu 12 STILL didn't go completely well. It was definitely much better than the in-place upgrade, but still. I guess that my laptop has a lame mobile Nvidia graphics card that is finicky with the new "Unity" interface, and it refused to load a graphical desktop or even respond to the keyboard unless I switched to the "lame minimal desktop" which they call Unity 2D or something at first while I figured it out. But I did get Unity to work by changing to the newer "restricted set" Nvidia driver. The default one that activates on installation did not work with my chipset. But, according to forums I am the weak link here, because the default one works for most people except a couple of models. So, I had to figure that out. So now I have the cool fancy-pants Unity 3D desktop woooo.

Also. Ubuntu One. I am trying to sync pictures taken on my phone with the Ubuntu One app and it seems kind of clunky and not super simple to use. I am going to look into dropbox but eh.

I don't know nuttin' about dropbox. I use Picasa for the sync. It's the Google + app that does instant upload. It just depends on if you want to get intimate with Google.

Don't quote me on this but Picasa is only for pictures right? (considering the name -PICasa,)...I am syncing pics on my phone, but I also want to in the future be able to share some music and documents as well. For instance to my phone or laptop from the desktop. I will check it out either way, just for reference I suppose.

I think the Google Drive would work for those things, though I've only messed with it a little. I have a buttload of music stored with Google (Play Music) that streams to my mobile. I guess Google owns me.

I'm a little new to cloud stuff but am more interested after several inconvenient hard drive, and other device, failures over the years.
