Guess who's back???????

, ,

Nope, I am not talking about Sachin Tendulkar. I am talking about the most famous faction in WWE history........

D-Generation X (also known as De-Generation X, D-X and DX) is a faction in World Wrestling Entertainment. Their gimmick is that of a group of rebels who do and say what they want, no matter how provocative. DX is generally considered one of the most popular stables in pro wrestling history. The group's original run was from 1997 to 2000, undergoing several roster changes during that time. After one-off returns in 2000 and 2002, DX reformed in June 2006 as the duo (Thus Far) of Triple H and Shawn Michaels.
DX has been believed to be heavily influenced by WCW's nWo (although Vince McMahon has denied this on many occasions), and was created to battle with WCW in the ratings war. Incidentally, DX and the nWo included members of professional wrestling's Clique.

History

The original D-Generation X. Left to Right: Rick Rude, Chyna, Shawn Michaels and Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

D-Generation X was formed during the WWF's highly successful "attitude era" in the latter half of 1997. Real life friends and reported Clique members Shawn Michaels and Hunter Hearst Helmsley (who began being known simply as Triple H) were the original two members, along with their bodyguard, Chyna and their "insurance policy", Rick Rude. On October 13, 1997, the group officially referred to themselves as D-Generation X for the first time and debuted their signature slogan, "Suck it!" They were often shown on television practicing sophomoric humor and rebelling against authority figures in the company. Their trademark "crotch chops" became one of the most popular gestures in pro wrestling while their "D-Generation X" T-shirts enjoyed considerable sales.
The name D-Generation X was taken from an opinion column by Phil Mushnick which appeared in TV Guide, in which Mushnick lambasted wrestling's primarily Generation X fanbase as degenerates, dubbing them "Degeneration X".
On-screen, however, the name was taken from Bret Hart who claimed that Shawn Michaels and Triple H were nothing more than degenerates. D-Generation X's first feud came against Bret Hart and his Hart Foundation. This feud ended in November 1997 at the Survivor Series pay-per-view in the infamous Montreal Screwjob which led to Bret leaving the company along with two of the remaining three members of the Foundation. The only member that remained in the WWF, Owen Hart, continued to feud with DX, specifically Triple H.
"D-Generation X" was later used as the title for a WWF "In Your House" pay-per-view telecast on December 7, 1997.

DX army

The DX army - Back left to right: X-Pac, Triple H, Chyna. Front: "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn, The Road Dogg

On March 29, 1998, at WrestleMania XIV, Shawn Michaels was the WWF Champion while Triple H was the European Champion and they had recruited boxer Mike Tyson to act as the "Special Enforcer" in the main event of the night featuring Michaels against "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. At the end of the match, Tyson turned on D-Generation X and cost Michaels the match. Michaels, who would take a long hiatus due to a real-life injury, was now out of DX. The next night on RAW, Triple H declared himself to be the new leader. He recruited a re-debuting X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws, to reform DX in an incarnation that came to be known as the "DX army". In his debut X-Pac, who had just been released from World Championship Wrestling, cut a now-famous promo where he responded to then-WCW wrestler Hulk Hogan's live interview that alluded to X-Pac's recent release from the promotion.
This incarnation of DX became extremely popular and eventually turned face. During this time they would be involved in several storylines and skits - including a feud with rival faction Nation of Domination and The Corporation. DX parodied the Nation and The Corporation where they dressed as the members of the respective factions and impersonated their characteristic mannerisms. They also made a video package where they "raided" Atlanta, the home of WCW. At one point the they even attempted to "invade" (with a tank and military dress) a live broadcast of WCW Monday Nitro in Norfolk, Virginia, across Hampton Roads from where WWF Raw is War had their live broadcast in Hampton, Virginia (they made it to the Norfolk Scope arena, but were barred entry). This incarnation of the faction lasted about a year.

The End of an Era

On October 25, 1999, the group reformed as heels to include every member except for Shawn Michaels, Chyna and Rick Rude (who had died that April). From then until mid-2000, DX remained a strong and united group. In early 2000, however, Billy Gunn was placed out of action for several months after suffering an injury against The Dudley Boyz. Gunn's storyline involved him getting thrown out of DX when he lost his cool. X-Pac teamed with Road Dogg, but the two never reached the heights of the New Age Outlaws. At WrestleMania 2000, Vince McMahon turned on The Rock and aided Triple H in retaining his title. This marked the start of what many fans nicknamed "Corporate-DX" (much like the Corporate Ministry from the previous year). However the group was officially dubbed the McMahon-Helmsley Faction (it had earlier gone by the name "McMahon-Helmsley Regime"). Edge and Christian referred to the group as "The Fac-gime" (Pronounced Fack-sheem), combining both words, faction and regime after having an argument as to whether to call the group a faction, or regime.
The following month The Rock defeated Triple H at Backlash in a match which featured Steve Austin's brief return to the WWF. Though Triple H would regain the title the following month at Judgment Day, the group gradually broke apart. By late 2000 Triple H was a solo star, while other members went the same way. On the November 6, 2000 edition of RAW is WAR the group temporarily rejoined (save for X-Pac, who was injured) to take on Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn (The Radicalz) in an 8-man tag team match which DX won. The match included the group doing their old DX entrance as well as telling the crowd to "Suck it!" It was the symbolic end to D-Generation X. However, the members of DX (excluding Triple H) along with K-Kwik, then Road Dogg's tag team partner, went on to have a feud with the Radicalz that month, eventually leading up to a match at Survivor Series, involving the same 8 wrestlers except for Triple H, who was replaced by K-Kwik. which The Radicalz won.
On July 22, 2002, on the episode of RAW, a week after the breakup of the nWo, Triple H handed Shawn Michaels a DX t-shirt and stated he "had an idea", suggesting that the two reform the group. The duo later came out that night to their old music and crotch chops to the delight of the crowd. However, this did not last as Triple H turned on Michaels that very show; he had teased the reunion as a ploy to appease Michaels and lure him to the ring before giving him a Pedigree. This act lead to the in-ring return of Shawn Michaels at SummerSlam 2002 and the genesis of a long feud between the two.

Return

In 2006, a series of events took place which suggested a reunion of Shawn Michaels and Triple H as DX starting at WrestleMania 22 where both Shawn Michaels and Triple H performed the crotch chop during their matches. The two continued to deliver chops in the following episodes of WWE RAW as Michaels feuded with Mr. McMahon and Triple H went for the WWE Championship, repeatedly butting heads with Mr. McMahon in the process.
The rumors of a return were fueled by many releases in late-May and June such as copies of a WWF Magazine from January 1998, autographed by Michaels and Triple H on WWE's auction site, as well as a DX DVD and T-shirt, and the announcement of the release a two pack of action figures, featuring classic Michaels and Triple H in DX gear in August.
On the June 12 edition of RAW, the rumors were finally proven true. During Triple H's gauntlet match against the Spirit Squad, Shawn Michaels came in to save his old friend Triple H. After the duo had routed the Spirit Squad, the two men began to do their infamous crotch chops and Triple H mooned Mr. McMahon. During WWE Unlimited, Michaels and Triple H directed their old catchphrase, "Suck it!", to McMahon which sent him into a rage. After the break, Mr. McMahon announced backstage that the Spirit Squad would face "that damn DX" at Vengeance on June 25 in a 5-on-2 handicap match in which DX would win. After the win, the group would continue its sophmoric antics at the expense of The Spirit Squad, Vince and Shane McMahon and Jonathan Coachman for several weeks.

Suck it!

I got 2 words for ya… Suck it.

  • Triple H:

Are you ready? I said, are you ready!? Then, for the thousands attending, for the millions watching at home, let's get ready to suck it!

  • Shawn Michaels:

Some time during this show, we are gonna cross paths. And you talk about us being Degenerates. You know what, I am tired of Generation X getting a bad rap. Do you think you're a degenerate? I mean, I'm positive I'm one. You know what? Generation X always gets a bad rap; everybody calls us degenerates. Degeneration X... is that us? Degeneration X! You make the rules, and we will break them!

Election Speech

HHH: We will only use the words, ass, damn, hell and bitch. We will NEVER, however, use the words, shit, fuck, goddamn, Jesus Christ, faggot or any other racial or sexual slurs. Now then, as it pretains to video, we promise there will be LESS dick references.

HBK: Oh SHIT!

HHH: Watch your fuckin' mouth!

HBK: Woah jeez, fuck me...

HHH: Goddammit... fuck! ... Anyway, there will be less penis references.

HBK: Oh and one last thing, even though many of you believe that currently the favorite past time in the Oral Office is...swallow the leader. I did not, I repeat, I did not sleep with that young intern. As a matter of fact...I was UP, ALL, NIGHT!

Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan - A true legend

, , ,

When I was searching for pictures of a few actors and actresses, I saw a picture of Sivaji under which I found this. This article is about how Sivaji grew up into an actor and how he attained so much fame. Some of the facts were really astonishing. So I thought I could share it with you people.

SIVAJI GANESAN
Along with M.G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan dominated Tamil Cinema to such an extent that the two automatically demanded Madras distribution rights in their contracts and could bankrupt a producer by causing production delays and stalling a film's release if they so desired.
Born Viluppuram Chinnaiah Ganesan in Sirkali, Tamil Nadu, his father moved to Viluppuram where he spent his early years. When he was seven, a travelling drama troupe came to Viluppuram. Sivaji acted as one of the soldiers in the play. His father was appalled that he had acted in some cheap drama and that too in a white man's part. He was lambasted and punished and ran away from home. He joined a drama troupe touring Tiruchi - Yadharathnam Ponnuswamy and Company. He told the owner he was an orphan and was taken under his wing. It was here that he honed his talents for music and dancing. He learnt Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kathakali and even Manipuri and also trained in Carnatic music. As he moved from troupe to troupe, his reputation as an actor grew.
Sivaji acted on the stage when it was scandalous for women to do so. He played several roles of women on the stage. One of his favourites was Noorjehan. To quote him...

I used to do the Kathak and at every step, I got resounding applause.

He made his reputation as an actor in C.N. Annadurai's Sivaji Kanda Indhu Rajyam, a historical on the Maratha Emperor Shivaji. He was asked to play the role at the last moment when the lead actor (an unknown MGR!) backed out. It is said he memorized the entire 95 pages of dialogues in a day! Such was his impact that the play also gave him his screen name.
Sivaji followed Annadurai when he started the DMK in 1949. He made his film debut playing the lead role in Parasakthi (1952).The film is one of the most controversial films in the history of Tamil Cinema, replete with assonant monologues. It owed its success in large part to its dialogues written by Karunanidhi who used the film to express his ideas on religion, god and priesthood. The success of the film not only made Sivaji a star, but also the official icon of the DMK party for some years.
However in the mid-1950s, a trip to Tirupathi saw him fall from grace as it went against the 'rationalistic message' of the DMK that he propagated in film after film. Also, simultaneously the glorification of MGR had begun. He was now the new propaganda avatar of the DMK. Sivaji moved to E.V.K. Sampath's Tamil Nationalist Party and then the Congress and later it's opposition, the Janata Dal.
As an actor however, he continued to shine. Moving away from the DMK's atheistic politics, he acted in several mythologicals - Sampoorna Ramayan (1958) and Thiruvillaiyadal (1965), nationalist historicals - Veerapandya Kattoboman (1960), his most famous film, and biographicals - Kappalotiya Thamizhan (1961). Veerapandiya Kattaboman won Sivaji the Best Actor Award at the Afro-Asian Festival in Cairo. Twentieth Century Fox bought over the telecasting rights of one of his best known films - Thillana Mohanambal (1968) and The Washington Post hailed him as India's Clark Gable!
Sivaji was acknowledged as a consummate actor, vastly imitated but never equalled. His eyes had fire and he was cheered for his resounding voice, which the audience called 'simmakural' or a lion's roar. At the same time however, there has been constant criticism that he 'overacts.' But Sivaji always retorted...

What is acting? It means doing something that is not natural. So then where is the question of overacting? When your mother dies, what do you do? You shout Amma and cry, don't you? Your instant reaction is to cry out loud. Not sit quietly covering your eyes with your hands. That's exactly what I do in my films.

Since the mid 1970s however, Muthal Mariyathai (1985) is the one major film of Sivaji's that stands out. Not only was the film a commercial success but it also brought Sivaji critical acclaim as well. But by now the attention had shifted to younger heroes like Rajnikant and Kamal Hassan. Among his more recent films, he did give a strong performance as the latter's father in Thevar Magan (1992) getting a Special Jury Mention for the same.
Sivaji was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1982 - 88. It is maintained that Sivaji had a more significant iconic presence among the Tamil middle-class leading to his 1980s - 90s deification, than MGR could ever acquire. He has won several awards including the Padma Shri in 1966, the Padma Bhushan in 1984 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian Cinema in 1997.
His son Prabhu went on to become a major Tamil filmstar in the 1980s and 1990s although Sivaji wanted him to join the Police Force.
Mostly retired and plagued by ill-health through the last few years, Sivaji took each day as it came. To quote him...

I don't worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow's problems are for another day.

Sivaji passed away in a hospital in Chennai on July 21, 2001 following a prolonged heart ailment.

World Wrestling Entertainment

, , ,

After a series of posts on football, I've decided to take a break and start posting on some other topic. The next thing that came to my mind was World Wrestling Entertainment or WWE as it is called nowadays. I have been a fan of WWE or WWF as it was called before since I was a 10 year old. Even though I came to know that it was all fake and all the stunts performed by those wrestlers were rehearsed, I still followed every match closely and my liking for it never decreased. I can say that I am a WWE-addict.
So, what can say about WWE? It is basically a pre-planned wrestling matches usually held between two individuals. The Wrestlers, or so called 'superstars' wrestle each other to win titles. There are a variety of titles viz The World Heavyweight Title, WWE Championship, The United-States title, The Intercontinental Championship, The Cruiserweight title, The tag-team title and The Womens title. The whole WWE Roster is divided into two, the RAW superstars and the SmackDown Superstars. Raw and smackdown are the two of WWE's weekly. They are telecasted on TV on Monday and Friday nights respectively. There are also extravagnaza's called pay-per-view's which are held once a month. They are either presented individually by Raw or Smackdown or by both together. Each show has a general manager who decides the fixtures. Each wrestler enters the arena with his own Entrance theme into the Squared Circle where the match itself is held. Each matched is adjuged by pin-fall or submission by a referee. There are a variety of regulations for different types of matches which have to be seen to understood.
So what's your view of the WWE?? Can anyone help me out of this addiction??
