The Jackson 5: An American popular music family group from Gary, Indiana. Founding group members Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael formed the group after performing in an early incarnation called The Jackson Brothers, which originally consisted of a trio of the three older brothers. Active from 1964 to 1989, the Jacksons played from a repertoire of R and B, soul, pop and later disco. During their six and a half-year Motown tenure, The Jackson 5 were one of the biggest pop-music phenomena of the 1970s, and the band served as the launching pad for the solo careers of their lead singers Jermaine and Michael, the latter brother later transforming his early Motown solo fame into greater success as an adult artist.
Jonas Brothers: An American pop boy band. The band gained its popularity from the Disney Channel children's television network. From the shore region of New Jersey, the band consists of three brothers: Paul Kevin Jonas II (Kevin Jonas), Joseph Adam Jonas (Joe Jonas), and Nicholas Jerry Jonas (Nick Jonas). In the summer of 2008, they starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock. The band has released four albums: It's About Time, Jonas Brothers, A Little Bit Longer, and Lines, Vines and Trying Times. In 2008, the group was nominated for the Best New Artist award at the 51st Grammy Awards and won the award for Breakthrough Artist at the American Music Awards. As of May 2009, before the release of Lines, Vines and Trying Times, they have sold over eight million albums worldwide.
soulDecision: The group was formed in Vancouver under the original name Indecision by singers Trevor Guthrie and David Bowman, and keyboard player Ken Lewko, who were studying music together at Capilano College. Before signing a record deal, they released a couple of singles that received national top 40 radio airplay. The success of those singles led them to a record deal with Universal Music. However, due to naming conflicts, they had to change their name from Indecision, a requirement they were unhappy with; they in fact, allowed their manager to choose the new name soulDecision. Although launched at the height of the boy band era, soulDecision wrote their own music and played their own instruments, unlike some other similar groups.
Imajin: An American R and B boy band that is known for their hit "Shorty (You Keep Playing With My Mind)" featuring Keith Murray. The group also made a version of this song with (rapper) Mr. Cheeks of the rap group The Lost Boyz. This single peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 20 on Billboard's Hot R and B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and number 22 in the UK Singles Chart in 1998. The band was originally put together by record producer Bert Price and inspired by past boy bands such as Jackson 5, New Edition, Hi-Five, Immature, and Mint Condition.
Take That: A BRIT award-winning English pop band consisting of Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, and Jason Orange. Barlow acts as the group's main songwriter. Each member primarily performs vocals, though each has some instrumental/songwriting capability. In the early to mid 1990s, the band achieved major success as a five person boyband act with Robbie Williams. The current lineup reformed without Williams in 2005 and achieved new success as a four-piece man version of the band. Formed in Manchester in 1990, Take That sold more than 25 million records between 1991-96.
Triple 8: Triple 8, aka 888, were a British five-piece hip-hop style boy band signed to Polydor Records. Triple 8 were promoted as the British 'N Sync and a rival to manufactured boy bands of the time, such as Westlife and A1.They had two hit singles: "Knockout" and "Give Me A Reason", which charted at numbers eight and nine respectively. Their album, Heavy W8 was cancelled and the band subsequently parted company with their record label. The album has since leaked on the internet.
