Merry Christmas

Fishing for fun!

My i-friend Scott a.k.a. I_ArtMan often posts,
on amazing cooking dinners he prepared.
His last post was on Salmon. http://my.opera.com/I_ArtMan/blog/2009/10/26/dinner-as-always
I love fish myself,
and cooking, fishing shows too!
My "inspired by my i-friends on Opera posts will continue today on fish ,
rather on fishing!!
yes, indeed!
There is a fishing/sports channel on TV
and in it, there is a very popular show called
"Bill Dance Outdoors".
In that Dance appears to be always perfect,
but what goes on behind the scenes ,
it is not always perfect!

If you are a fisherman you will love these little gems!

* I used to go fishing with my daddy when in Greece,
I miss those days ..*

Enjoy!

I suspect that it's more relaxing in Greece. Did you encounter snakes? :left:

Hahahaha...."aint that a fine howdie do". Love that phrase!

These were hilarious! Especially the second one!

I wonder what channel this is on as I've never seen it. Is it on basic cable? Do they show the bloopers too?

Darko 30. October 2009, 18:15

The funniest part was that hard fightin` with a motor

L2D2 30. October 2009, 18:57

Angeliki, before I even watch the videos, have to tell you that I have watched Bill Dance for many years. The kind of fishing he does is for black bass, (usually) and that is the sport fishing for which East Texas is famous. Not sure what channel he is on these days because I haven't watched in a while, but used to watch every show, and yes, sometimes they showed the bloopers. Another famous fishing guide/fisherman around here who also had his own show was Roland Martin. It was one of them who had a fishing episode with the singer/actor Jerry Reed and one with C&W singer Mel Tillis, that were the funniest things I have ever seen.

Going now to watch bloopers.

Kittylicious 30. October 2009, 19:03

On the second one, it looks as if he's holding a giant mixer of a kind!
And man... I would have jumped too if I'd seen that snake!

L2D2 30. October 2009, 19:03

Just FYI, that second video was about a trolling motor. All good fishermen have one one their boat. It pulls the boat along at a very slow speed so you don't have to row or use big engine when you want to fish in one certain area, or when you are fishing in places that are very brushy or have lots of lily pads, or other plant life.

L2D2 30. October 2009, 19:04

Thanks for the fishing post. I don't get to fish any more, but I am a fisher from the heart!

scott cumming 30. October 2009, 19:55

very funny, all three. i guess sometimes fishing is full of surprises. what i don't like is when that sharp hook bites me when i am not real careful.
i loved to fish when i was a kid. sunfish in central park when i was five with a bent safety pin and dough for bait. to coral reefs in jamaica where the tiny fish we caught with just a line and a hook and cocinas for bait were a bite apiece and we roasted them on the beach with the sun setting. lake fishing in barrington il... bass. and river fishing, rainbow trout, and steelhead salmon (one of the hard fighting fish) in washington. but the most fun and most rewarding was spearfishing... pompano and sheepshead in clearwater, fla and mullet at night with a four pronged drag gig. the tastiest was skin diving off the back of a sailboat in the florida keys.... spiney lobsters were abundant and we boiled and ate them on the back of the boat. we dipped them in drawn butter with garlic and lemon... mmmm yummy.

once though, i was coming around a piling with a speargun and came face to face with a very big barracuda. he had an evil smile about one foot from my face. i was so scared i made excuses and promised him never to hunt in his neighborhood again. the barracuda was generous and let me go.

Gavin Sheedy 30. October 2009, 20:51

:yikes:

I wondered why he didn't turn the motor off.

dbshadow(Deacon Blue) 30. October 2009, 21:28

@artmam, I think I met him too, in Key West, he raced me to the top but I could fly out of the water, Iactually bit my snorkel mouthpeice off, and I think the yellow water chased him off.
@Linda, had the same snake experience at Sam Rayburn, think it was a Copperhead, being a good Texan
I pulled my 45 Cal. and shot it, through the bottom of the boat. My friend drove while I bailed and bailed, kinda ruined the trip, but I killed the damn snake.

Jurjen 30. October 2009, 23:50

A fishing channel... dear god. I thought fishing was boring, but watching it on tv that must be extremely boring! :D

Yeah I know fishing can be a big thrill too, I had this video earlier today I shared at zaphira's that proves it

The bloopers are funny though.

Growing Arms Back is Handy! 31. October 2009, 00:07

All Bill needed to do was fit the snake with a motor and the snake would've had all the trouble!

That's happened to more than one fisherman around here, lemmetellya'.

I really liked night fishin' when I was a kid. Midnight, lanterns hung over the side of the boat, trillions of stars above, fireflies dancin' among the trees on the distant shore, the only sounds being the gentle lapping of the waves against the boat and the screams when Dad would sneak up, grab one of us, and toss us overboard.

Ah, those were the days.

:D

L2D2 31. October 2009, 01:17

Star, I love fishing for crappie (pronounced croppie) at night with lanterns. Used to do it all through Feb., March and April, sometimes May. They are the best tasting fish===light and flaky. I loved night fishing. Have fished in bass tournaments at night, also, and won some money doing so.

Nothing boring about fishing once you've caught your fist big fish---especially using a top water bass lure!

In East Texas, if the snake is in the water, it's more likely to be a water moccasin or cottonmouth. Very poisonous. Had experience with that, too.

And yes, shooting gar one night, 4 of us in flat bottom aluminum boat and guest shot hole in the boat. We did a lot of bailing, too, although someone had some bubble gum we used to plug up the hole because we weren't ready to go to shore. Worked fairly well.

Stardancer 31. October 2009, 02:02

Crappie fishing is very popular here, but the pros fish the bass tournaments on the lakes. Catfish are easily found, too. Most people use rod and reels, though, not their arms. (A reference to another video I saw on Kitty's blog today.)

I used to date a guy (many many moons ago) who bowfished gar at Wattensaw in eastern Arkansas. Huge sport there. Ugly fish.

Same water snakes here, too. Nasty, mean thangs.

:yikes:

Angeliki 31. October 2009, 02:04

hi delicious party people!

Angeliki 31. October 2009, 02:05

@ Carol,
 i am glad I gave you a laugh

Angeliki 31. October 2009, 02:08

@ Gavin,

fishing in Greece (while in an Island is amazing ...) I went fishing most of the time to the Evros fork, a wide river btwn Turkey/Greece/Bulgaria. my dad has two fishing boats (hobby use only). Rivers close to the sea have no snakes..the water is very clear too..
However when we lived in a small town in a remote area, i used to go swimming with the boys at the river and we always had to be careful for river snakes....

Angeliki 31. October 2009, 02:09

Chuck,

I am glad you laughed p:

Angeliki 31. October 2009, 02:10

Pam,
if a snake came in the boat I would have thrown my body to the crocodiles too!
