There are more than 100,000 planes in the sky daily,
by knowing how things work in the cockpit,
and being married to a man who was the Station Manager of an Airline at Kennedy Airport,
I know the passengers were safe, the auto pilot did a great job...
but how did this happen?
By watching the following video you will realize there is another world in the sky,
air traffic worldwide over a 24-hour period it is impressive ,
and requires responsible pilots and flight controllers..
Enjoy the video, and have Happy Travels!
Using a plane is always safer than driving but now getting lost in the sky
became a fact too.....

I just ordered a CD and a book today -- a copy of Euripides' Medea so maybe you can be my tutor, yeah? If you could do that for me, that is?

Two more jobs I would not want to do: pilot or air traffic controller.
I think those two pilots were relying too much on the auto-pilot. Kinda scary.

is technology used right, when it interferes with your simple functions? Like hearing?

An hour in a private jet burns as much fuel as one year of driving. ...
ride a horse. see the land rise and fall. feel the rain on your face. then send the money you saved to a village in africa.

Really? I would love it. Air Traffic Controller, sure it a bit stressful at times. You just needs to be very well in processing data fast in your head. If you can do that it's a very relaxing job I think, 4 hours a day or something like that, nice salary, more then enough time to spend it. Count me in
I don't know what youtube is doing the last time, but it's screws things up here too. It plays eventually, but it doesn't work well. Have they made changes lately?

Ah, but you are young. When you are young, you don't mind a stressful job and, in fact, it feels exhilarating. When I was in my twenties, I worked for lawyers. I found it very exciting but also very demanding. But still, being an Air Traffic Controller, you are responsible for the thousands of lives on those planes. I wouldn't want that responsibility for any amount of money.
Dr. John v. Kampen # 5. November 2009, 14:52
Call sign, altitude, heading and speed are the primary parameters in these conversations. The movie gives some 'funny' examples. What a profession that is.
BTW PainterWoman: ATC assists and helps the pilots. The latter fly the plane and decide. ATC can advise some other decision, which will hardly be the case. If the pilots don't cooperate its their responsibility!

If pilots don't cooperate it remains their responsibility.... I said.

Pilots have to listen to the ATC, no matter what they say. If they do not listen, sure its the pilots fold if something goes wrong. However if an ATC give bad advice it is their responsibility. A pilot flies blind on what the ATC says! Ah... the power you have
Dr. John v. Kampen # 5. November 2009, 20:35
Air Traffic Control (ATC) is the service provided to pilots to assist them in operating their aircraft in a safe, orderly and efficient manner.
As the Cessna turned to final approach, an airliner called in 'over the marker' (5 miles from the airport). The Cessna was about a half mile from the runway, and the controller knew he could land and clear the runway well before the airliner would land, so he cleared the airliner to land as well. A few seconds later, the Cessna pilot asked the controller, "How far behind me is that 737?" Before the controller could respond, the airline pilot keyed his mike, and in a deep bass voice said, "Don't look back!..."
Jurjen # 5. November 2009, 20:57
So it seems in controlled airspace they do have to listen only when there is an emergency they may ignore orders.
Flying blind may be a big term, but in certain circumstances they do very much rely on information from the ATC I suppose.
Nice picture! Those glasses are fashionable again
