Girls Behaving Badly

After receiving copies from IMs and emails on Wednesday night,
all sent to many Opera members by a competitor on the "Best Blog by a Female" ,
not only I stopped visiting the polls but I wonder:
" why a T-Shirt is more important to some that giving a good wish "Good Luck" or "happy Thanksgiving???"
Reading my 15 year old daughters' work it was clear to me that some girls never become ladies,
they remain teenagers...
With the approval of my daughter Vaia a.k.a.greekgirl330 here it is her work for her English Class (please note that her work has nothing to do with the nominations/voting on Opera) :

Soapbox

“She’s so stupid. She’s ugly. She’s anorexic. She’s such a slut. She’s too fat. He’s way too hot for her. She’s a backstabber.” Labels and gossip and rumors are the lovely components that make up a female teenager’s world. The teenage society is just a cage of lions, waiting with their mouths wide open, unable to close, to feed on gossip and the sorrow of others. These females conspire against each other due to jealousy, rivalry, and at times realize they detest others for no apparent reason. Only fifteen and sixteen years old, their minds are more corrupt and cruel than an executioner’s and mob boss’s combined. Us girls are all secretly sadistic deep down inside, waiting for someone to get hurt so we can kick them while they’re down. We all do it. Every single one of us takes part in this stripping of each other’s self esteem by christening our peers with names such as ugly, fat, easy, and stupid. While we spit out these venomous titles, the favor is returned. Lies, betrayal, and rumors all puncture our souls as all the love deflates out of the open tears and we’re left with evil in this nauseating atmosphere. Where is the love? Aren’t we supposed to support each other? Instead, our best friends take part in our vicious acts of hating, judging, and ridiculing. Sure, when we’re degraded, they graciously comfort us and fiercely attack the opposing party, but two wrongs never did make a right. The truth is sad; humankind can’t change, especially not stubborn teenagers. Our vicious mindsets can’t be distorted from it’s original state to become caring and see the good in our fellow teenagers. We will always wear our low self esteems on our sleeves because CoverGirl doesn’t make a product that can cover up our transparent distress.

You're daughter is incredibly wise for her age. Very well written and sadly true.

ellinidata 29. November 2008, 20:39

thanks Casey,
You are very wise for your young age too, Your mother did a great job with you!
As for Vaia,
at the age of 15 takes Advanced Placement Classes and she is working very hard for her grades.
She is a good person above all ...Thanks

dragon_harrower 29. November 2008, 20:45

Thanks Angeliki.

Vaia has a great mother to help her too.

ellinidata 29. November 2008, 20:48

Angeliki, I'm sorry that the awards has come to this.
I know Mik posted something about it too.
You sure have an insightful daughter. I'm sure you are proud of her.

Great work, which luckily is not fully true p:

ellinidata 29. November 2008, 21:10

thanks Carol,
yes, I felt sad that women couldn't handle their "ego" or act as adults. On the other hand there are always wonderful people on Opera that I care deeply and I will never rush to judge or betray

ellinidata 29. November 2008, 21:12

hi "Golden Sunshine" ! I am glad to see you here today...I have a few post alerts from you and I am glad to tell you I will be visiting Russia this afternoon ! p:

Teenage years were the worst years. Things get better.

dragon_harrower 29. November 2008, 21:25

That depends on the person. I've worked with a lot of people that never left their teenage years behind. Homer: Doh!

edwardpiercy 29. November 2008, 21:53

"because CoverGirl doesn’t make a product that can cover up our transparent distress."

And they don't provide the magic mirror of the Evil Queen, either. :frown:

ellinidata 29. November 2008, 22:44

:frown: sorry to hear it Denis,
I hope you reconsider and you do vote .

ellinidata 29. November 2008, 22:46

aadil,
I agree, the teen years are always difficult, and I believe it gets better. Too bad young kids don;t really see it and they have an enormous pressure to fit in...

ellinidata 29. November 2008, 22:47

Casey is right too,
sometimes maturity never arrives,
I always wonder if a person doesn't get to a mature point, what are their choices in relationships and adult life???

ellinidata 29. November 2008, 22:48

Ed,
Thanks for the comment,
Vaia is very shy and extremely busy ,
but she reads all the comments in my posts,
I know she would like this very much

Sometimes things get better but sometimes too, things stay the same. Even as people get older there are a few who stay in high school gossip mode.

ellinidata 30. November 2008, 00:02

ellinidata 30. November 2008, 00:07

aww Pam, that's not a good feeling,
I don't even feel angry at these people,
I would say I feel sad.
They deserve a better life filled with love and compassion and understanding and friends.
If these things are missing from these people lives,
then life doesn't seem enjoyable.
I hope all just stop and think
"how much fun am I to be around??"
and then try to change a thing or two about them.
If again they are not able to do such,
I hope they receive a lot of love from around them,
feeling loved changes a person.
I hope all are loved on earth.

clean 30. November 2008, 00:13

Wow! Very intelligent daughter you have there! I remember those (sorts of) feelings and they were hard to put into words at all, let alone in such a profound manner!

ellinidata 30. November 2008, 00:29

thanks David,
she is a shy kid,
her poetry and written work have been included in the High School Teachers model manual in our New York district,
she has a pad under her pillow and I am very lucky to be first to read her work every single day
she will read all these comments and I know she will smile ...
she is too modest to respond.

thank you!

DBabbit 30. November 2008, 01:29

Vaia is fortunate to have you for a mother. I remember being that shy 15 yr. old - so long ago! <sigh> - Oh, to be that young, and that wise!  to all!

ellinidata 30. November 2008, 01:38

 thanks Denise,
I am fortunate too

I had relatively happy teen years,

and I hope all kids at this tender age see
that every single age has it's own problems,
I am glad they don't know about the forties !!

Great words...

I do wonder, who actually thought that the backstabbing and harsh words would NOT happen? With every COMPETITION comes pride and hurt feelings. What else could happen? Adults are 10,000 worse than children so I thought it was obvious...

Dacotah 30. November 2008, 01:59

ellinidata 30. November 2008, 02:10

thanks Ripp,

I don't see backstabbing in group categories so far

when we had the "best summer story" we actually helped each other and it was a lot of fun!
Zetorres won that contest and there were many P/msgs from him encouraging me to campaign,
we ended up being very close friends since then and I hope our Group 365photos ,
we are both Moderators in it does well.

Another group does well and the Moderators are visiting us often and cheer every time we are ahead...

yes,
some adults are worse than kids,

these adults I hope find love in their lives to make them feel better ,

I also hope they realize that having friends in real life it is very important.
Real life friendships makes you a better person,

ifriends are great but they come and go.....

so,
how was the pumpkin pie?? did you have it or should I offer it here again ???

ellinidata 30. November 2008, 02:12

Carol I love this!!!

ripp2002 30. November 2008, 02:18

the warm pie was good as always... the whipped cream was also enjoyable...

As for adults... WTF? You have such a nice heart  However, far too many adults only think of themselves and what helps them get ahead. I do not think love has anything to do with it. They are simply the children of selfish parents and that enless cycle will continue until it is the common place in society. Sadly, we are damn close to it now :frown:

Dacotah 30. November 2008, 02:24

Thank you.

ellinidata 30. November 2008, 02:26

@ Ripp,

how much pie did you have ??? it sounds you need some love or LTC now too!

Once I told you something and you were puzzled ...
I said "I find good in every single person" and I mean it,
we just have to encourage it!
Yes, I do agree with you that selfish and self centered parents are the beginning of a miserable next generation but
we as members of a society ,
as educators
as neighbors
or friends we can change that... I know we can!

ellinidata 30. November 2008, 02:27

you are welcome Carol,
I will copy it my my files it is very sweet

ellinidata 30. November 2008, 04:49

me too Carol,
I am glad I visited Mik's post,
at least now I know it is not only "a girl thing!"
I never had a brother to know how boys act and my dad and late husband were very forgiving always to " the lost".Which I should be doing too

ellinidata 30. November 2008, 07:31
