Use the red plates might help people keep a diet to lose weight, researchers say.
According to a study by a team of German and Swiss researchers, people who eat the red plates and drink from containers of the same color reduce fuel consumption by up to 40%.
Scientists say that this might be because the color is usually associated with the idea of danger.
The research was conducted on a sample of 41 students. They were asked to drink tea from cups red and blue, and later researchers found that those who drank red cups use 44% less than students who used the blue cups.
In the second part of the study, 109 people received a plate of white, red or blue that were placed 10 pretzels. People who received red plate fewer ate pretzels than volunteers who received white or blue plates
The findings were published in the journal Appetite. Ursula Arens, a representative of the British Dietetic Association, said the results might be because "people associate red with the idea of danger."
