I became Opera user when Firefox started to act slow when using Moodle learning environment at my work. I was a little disappointed first when found out Moodle's WYSIWYG text editor does not support Opera. Nevertheless I soon learned to like all good features of Opera. One that especially pleased me was the way how Opera follows and support WWW standards.

After a while I noticed Opera Mini 4, which had taken a huge leap since Opera Mini 3. One of the major advantages introduced on Opera Mini 4 is Opera Link. Then that lured me to test first Opera 9.5 beta and now using Opera 9.5 final.

I would call this as my personal success story. I became familiar with Opera products and I also joined to MyOpera community. Here I learned to know number of fellow members and Opera users who have helped if having any troubles with Opera 9.5, Opera Link and Opera Mini 4. Tamil is one of the most reliable and kind sole I have learned to know around here.

Heyyy, there, you all Enjoy Opera Members!
Let's see ... how did I come to wind up using Opera and declaring it my Browser of Choice?

I am actually an AOL User / Subscriber and yes, I actually run my Opera superimposed on AOL as my ISP. I post on a couple of Message Boards there. For quite a while, I had been reading RAVES about this ... this ... this Firefox Wonder of the Universe. This was both from PCers and MACers.

So, one day, finally curiosity got the best of me and I decided to download and try this alleged Wonder of the Universe - Firefox, which was supposed to be immensely, Light Years Superior to Internet Explorer and any and ALL Browsers in existence. At first, I did see some potential in this Firefox. I figured I would have some use for it in conjunction with my AOL. But, the more I played and experimented with Firefox, it started quickly and progressively getting on my NERVES!!! On MY system, this highly-touted Firefox had 2 VERY Bad habits.

Bad Habit #1: Wayyy too many times, it would NOT open up a website on the 1st Shot, on the 1st Click. I had to be making multiple attempts on New Tab after New Tab ... New Window after New Window ... sometimes rapidly clicking on a link about 10 TIMES before Firefox would decide to come out of hibernation, hiatus or vacation and open up the website.

Bad Habit #2: Wayyy too many times, Firefox would NOT finish displaying websites in their entirety ... sometimes NOT even remotely close. The open website would be some Frankenstein version of what it was supposed to be. It would take multiple Reloads ... a lot of times in New Tabs or New Windows before the websites would be displayed in their entirety, or at least CLOSE to their entirety.

So, about 2 weeks after my Firefox Experiment began, I had HAD it with Firefox. I either had to go back Full Time to AOL or find a replacement "Wonder of the Universe." bigsmile

I then vaguely recalled reading the mention of Opera here and there throughout my Net Browsing. I then thought, "Hmmm? I'll go Google ... Check Out this Opera and see what it's all about and what kind of Reviews it has. To my surprise, I was reading a LOT of Good Stuff about Opera. So, I immediately downloaded it.

At the time still being so frustrated with Firefox, I was subsequently in an impatient mood. I wanted to immediately be Up to Speed with Opera. Unfortunately, after my first 20 Minutes of playing around with Opera ... the results were NOT Favorable. sad I swear, I was minutes if not SECONDS away from Pulling the Plug, Aborting my Opera Experiment. But, instead, I took a Break. I collected my thoughts, unwound and destressified myself ... and simmered down. bigsmile Once I came back from my Firefox-purging from my Mind Break ... everything just started Clicking with Opera. Everything started falling in place. Opera then quickly, progressively, exponentially started really impressing me.

I quickly saw that Opera (9.27) was the complete opposite of Firefox. The Anti-Firefox. Opera 9.27 had the GOOD Habit of ALWAYS opening up websites on the 1st Shot. And also Opera had the GOOD Habit of ALWAYS displaying websites in their entirety.

So, excluding those initial inauspicious IMPATIENT 20 minutes ... it was now NO Contest. I was sold. Opera obliterated, throttled, embarrassed, Kicked Sand in Firefox's face. lol I immediately right then and there BENCHED Firefox 2.0 and replaced it with Opera 9.27.

As for Opera 9.50? I immediately saw it was FASTER than Opera 9.27. Sure, right now Opera 9.50 has some quirks, glitches, but even those don't compare to Firefox's irritating annoying me to no end.

As a Bonus ... believe it or not, I REALLY think somehow my upgrading to Opera 9.50 FIXED my Internet Explorer! For as long as I remember, my IE was not working properly. Not that I used it anyway. But, I did know that for some reason my IE didn't display the URL Window and didn't have the Upper Most Menu, the one with WORDS like - File, Edit View, Etc. Suddenly, coincidentally after my Opera 9.50 Upgrade ... my IE is now working properly!!! Like as if Opera 9.50 installed a File that IE had been missing all these years. Maybe Opera 9.50 wanted to fix my IE so that it could LAUGH in its face! yes

That concludes my up to now Experience at the Opera.

Even before this Tell a Friend contest, I had already assigned myself a goal ... a MISSION. I am determined to get my oldest niece to Kick Firefox to the Curb and Whooooosh into the Future --- into Opera World. Back when she was younger, I used to have a LOT of influence on her. She used to value my opinion / input on things a LOT. Now that she's older and Uhhh, Ummm ... has a BRAIN of her own yikes ... she seems to have made it a hobby of questioning and challenging my every opinion, idea, decision, creations, Etc. If I say, "Blue," she says, "Red." If I say, "Up," she says, "Down." Needless to say, with that annoying pattern, when I say, "Opera," she says, "Firefox and Safari." bomb How DARE she not follow my lead and my impeccable instincts?

I HAVE demonstrated Opera to my niece. I HAVE demonstrated the Shock & Awe POWER, Reliability, Stability and Artistic LOOK vs. Firefox's Boring, Run of the Mill, Stuffy Windows LOOK. But, my niece wouldn't budge. I treated her to a Supersize serving of the unique Opera Speed Dial. Any normal person would have been drooling at the mere sight of such ingenuity. But, not my niece

But, don't despair, my fellow Opera Users. I have NOT given up the battle. I am determined to MAKE my niece see and understand that Opera is better than Firefox. I barely started downloading Skins this past week. I think if I smack my niece's visual senses with a couple of Awesome Opera Skins, I might just yet make a FORMER Firefoxer and New Opera User out of my niece.

I have to admit though, there IS something working against me in this mission. It IS already a known fact, as evidenced by our periodic friendly Jousting Sessions regarding all the Bells & Whistles I incorporate into my creative MS Word & MS PowerPoint creations ... that my niece does NOT like Bells & Whistles. Her motto is actually, "Less is More." She seems to like - Average / Safe / Middle Ground / Blending In ... aka --- BORING. So, if my niece eventually STILL refuses to board the Opera Rocket, it's because Opera is Too Much, Too Revolutionary, Too Pioneering, Too Ahead of Its Time, Too Pushing the Envelope ... Too Much Pedal to the Metal ... Too Much Thinking Outside the Box for her. My niece has always thrown that phrase at me, "Thinking Outside the Box." You can't get much more - Thinking Outside the Box than Opera. When I first mentioned Opera to my niece, she asked if it was Tab-based like Firefox. I told my niece that not only was Opera Tab-based, but that Opera INVENTED Tabbed-Browsing before Firefox was even a baby Fox.

Well, I have to go now and engineer my next Plan of Attack ... Uhhh, I mean, Strategy. I had jokingly threatened to one day, when the coast is clear and she left her Laptop unguarded ... I'd go install Opera in it. bigsmile Heyyy, if time is very limited, I could at least slap a Flash Drive on it with Opera Portable! yes
