Weight loss Extra Unnecessary Pounds - FAT

, , ,

Weight loss is possibly one of the biggest industries in the US today. Nobody wants to be fat. There are thousands of different diets, surgical procedures, books, videos, gyms, classes, etc., all dedicated to teaching you how to lose weight. The information on the internet alone about weight loss is overwhelming - if you read it all in one sitting, you would waste away. That might work!

Diet and exercise are the most commonly recommended solutions. But there can be other factors. Here we will discuss one particular type of weight gain. You were skinny when you were 25, but now that you're over 35, pounds seem to increase. Yes, if you eat junk food every day for lunch you will gain weight, and if you never exercise, you will also gain weight. But sometimes diet and exercise just don't work for people over 30.

Many people over 35 eat the same food they ate when they were in their twenties and skinny. Yet the pounds still add on. They still do some exercise and are not just sedentary, yet the pounds keep inching up (or out). They try to follow a decent healthy diet, but the scale shows the body isn't metabolizing the way it used to when they were younger.

What causes this phenomenon? Dwindling supplies of hormones produced by the body as the body gets older. It's not just one hormone responsible for weight gain in older people, but a combination of hormones. The lowering of hormone levels causes a lower rate of metabolism - thus the pounds pile on.

The main factors that affect weight loss are:

1. A diet that can be maintained and is healthful for your metabolic type.

2. Activity and exercise.

3. A diet of foods low in sugar and carbs - low on the glycemic index.

4. Restoring insulin sensitivity to the body.

5. Restoring brain seratonin.

6. Replacing hormones to a youthful balance.

People who try fad diets usually get little or no results. Exercise without attention to other factors can also be disappointing. Most people don't even know their metabolic type. A doctor trained in this area can tell you. Insulin plays a vital role in weight loss, and foods high in sugar and carbs have a high glycemic index and should be avoided if you want to lose weight.

That brings us to number 4, restoring insulin sensitivity. Because insulin sensitivity decreases with age, more insulin is released, fat is not broken down, and the pounds pile on. Diet can help, but there are also natural supplements that can help, too.

Number 5, restoring seratonin levels in the brain, is most often overlooked by anyone trying to lose weight, but the proper level of seratonin make one feel full and satisfied, and prevents binging on sugar or carbohydrates. And the seratonin level decreases with age. So remedying this factor makes it possible for a person to maintain weight loss and not revert to bad eating habits.

And finally an often ignored factor in handling weight gain that comes with age is hormone replacement. Many men have this condition and do not know it. Abdominal fat can be caused by a lack of testosterone with an abundance of estrogen. The hormone DHEA and thyroid hormones also affect weight gain and loss. So these hormones need to be restored to a more youthful balance.

Testing by a medical doctor can determine various hormone levels and identify what hormones are out of balance, and an appropriate prescription of natural hormones can be given to bring these hormones in balance.
