Make peace no war

I have to continue story about virtualization because I have changed my mind on this subject. I uninstalled Virtual PC 2004 and all virtual OS'es I experimented with. Next I tried to play with VMware Player and Kubuntu. I'm really shocked. No problem with sound, no problem with graphics (any resolution), no problem with USB, ports, printer, etc. Installation - half time of installation on VPC. Speed - just switch to fullscreen and forget about your mother-OS. This is the real VM-world. I have no tips for you because all was working fine just from the start. So, happy vm-playing

Battle with Virtual PC 2004

Virtualization is the best solution for testing and experimenting with new systems and new applications. I tried the most popular virtualization environments on the market: vmware Player and Virtual PC 2004 by Microsoft. I can say, I prefer VPC because there are no memory resident parts, all is clear and simple. I can see one basic disadvantage: this solution is fairly old. But it's completely free and as they promise, it will be free in the next versions too (Virtual PC 2007 is coming in April 2007).

Tips and tricks:
  1. Windows 3.11 for Workgroups - installation is a piece of cake. For getting sound choose Sound Blaster 1.0 from drivers list. For better graphics resolution you have to install s3 card driver,
  2. Windows 2000 - no problems, I tried ntswitch to change system into server version - it's really working.
  3. OS/2 Warp 4 - my installation disks didn't work and I have to look for new ones on the web. Finally I found all ready made disks as VPC images.
  4. Windows XP - disable all unnecessary services, effects, skins, system sounds, etc.
  5. Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) - installation was very complicated because of default color depth for X.org server. It should be changed from 24 to 16. After loading KDE switch to console 1, return to KDE, choose installation option from main menu, install it on your hard disk (it's simple and very well described). When Grub loader start press ESC key, run the recovery console. Then you have to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change defaultDepth from 24 to 16. To get sound card working add modprobe with snd-sb16, snd-mixer-oss, snd-pcm-oss and snd-seq-oss to /etc/modules file, then reboot.

It's cold outside

My organization has the opportunity to cooperate with some big corporation. I know it's a big challenge, big deal, but I do not feel that's a chance for me. Maybe all my doubts will be gone someday, maybe... But now, I'm working on a new module called Invoicement. Lately I've got an e-mail from my colleague with the pre-prepared project to make the analysis. It was done in Rational Rose. I really don't like this app, because it has for me too much unnecessary "features". We need some modeling tool for database design, for example Toad Data Modeler, ERwin or Case Studio. But we have license only for Rational I suppose, that's all...
Next time I will write down some details about the project process. Oh, I almost forgot to explain the title of this post. All about weather, and if we'll back to the songs: "... It's cold outside and I have so much to confide to you". Guess the name of the performer.

ScriptIDE version 2.0 is ready

I'm working as Software Designer and Analyst at DomData Ltd. Now I have ended the form designer as a part of programming environment called ScriptIDE. Our team are developing business solution for SMEs. Someday I have found that some functionalities can be based on the script mechanism, not compiled and executed but interpreted. And so ScriptCOM was born. At first it was simple and not much complicated. Then it changed into a fast and efficient component. We needed something to help us writing scripts, some useful tool. A few weeks later I designed Script Administrator. It grew and was renamed to ScriptIDE - professional application to operate on scripts and forms. All my work has been done in Delphi 5.0

Beginning

Today I've just started to write. Most of the blogs I treat like information without any sense, so I don't know what about this one. I realy don't like the word: blog, instead of this I prefer: a diary. Just because of "Nobody's Diary" by Yazoo, if you remember...
