Autosave searches

Introduce autosave to all search boxes!

INTRODUCTORY POINTS

1. There is a search box above the e-mail index list (access points) in the Mail panel and Mail window (M2). The searched string is automatically saved under Searches access point in the index list in M2.

2. Right-clicking the saved string in the index list and selecting Properties brings up a dialog which allows you to further modify the search. You can limit the search to e.g. whole message, message body, subject, etc. (the ordinary parameters of e-mail, newsgroup and RSS messages) and also select the folder(s)/filter(s) where to perform the search.

I think this feature in Opera is ingenious. It deserves further development and extended application.

EXAMPLE: CONTACTS

1. When looking for Contacts in the search box (found in Contacts panel and window), in addition to a list of contact items as they are displayed now, a search should be generated as a folder/filter under a Searches access point in the Contacts panel/window (exactly like M2).

2. Configuring the properties of the search should enable further specifying of search fields, which should include all the parameters that contacts have, e.g.
  • name,
  • e-mail,
  • phone/fax,
  • address,
  • notes,
  • nicks, etc.

3. Further, apply similar logic to search boxes in:
  • History manager (panel and window)
  • Bookmarks manager (panel and window)
  • Notes
  • Links
  • Windows panel
  • Transfers, etc.

These wishes may not seem like a big deal at first, but when you have lots of contacts and you want to somewhat organise them to e.g. make a permanent group of contacts to regularly send messages to (a mailing list), saved searches are crucial.
