Opera Mobile 8.6 for Pocket PC

, , ,

Last week we launched Opera Mobile 8.6 for Pocket PC. We've had a lot of great feedback, and we're very pleased with this version. Personally I enjoy its speed, having tabbed browsing on my device and being able to utilize the larger screen by surfing in landscape mode. It really makes the world of difference. The browsing experience is now very close to that of a PC because you Opera doesn't have to reformat the page as much as with Small-Screen Rendering. You should really give it a try - it comes with a 30-day free trial!

Heads up for all you Windows Mobile users out there! Opera for Windows Mobile Beta 2 is released tomorrow and will include significant updates, including... yes, you know it... tabbed browsing. I would love to stay and chat more about this, but I'm sick of the snow, so I'm heading to Egypt in the morning to scuba dive, read books and enjoy life for one week. Ahhhh...

2006 - The year of the Opera!

, , , ...

So it is already 2006. I know it will take me two months before I manage to adjust to writing 2005 2006 on letters and forms. Ah well, I had a nice and relaxing time over the holidays, only interrupted by phone calls from journalists around the world curious to hear about Google acquiring Opera. Or was it Microsoft? p:

Our Times Square competition was received very well by everyone, and I am glad we finally got the two love birds on a plane today. You can follow the development in Dan's blog.

Lots of exciting stuff happening in 2006, folks! We have the worldwide launch of Opera Mini coming up really soon, and I am busy preparing for it. I am very excited about this as Mini has such a great potential. Really, think about it. We're bringing the full Web to some 700 million phones around the world! Almost everybody can start surfing on the phone they have today! Isn't that a mobile Web revolution?

Then there's the much awaited release of Opera for Pocket PC, which is so close now that I can smell it in the hallways here at the Opera HQs. That is a smooth-running, sexy piece of software if I ever saw one.

I would love to say more, but need to keep some secrets, too :left: :right:

We've really turned it up quite a few notches in home media, or what is now officially our Opera for Devices business unit. The consumer electronics market will be of increased importance to Opera in 2006, and we have already made a few announcements.

Let's make 2006 as good for each other as I think it will be for Opera!

Opera 8.5 for Pocket PC on Win Mobile 5.0 device in Japan

, , , ...

Many of us are waiting for the PPC version of Opera, including me :D. I'm happy to say that we today announced that Opera 8.5 for PPC will be included on the new Sharp W-ZERO3 by the Japanese operator, Willcom Inc.

The Sharp W-ZERO3 is a Windows Mobile 5.0 device, and the first Pocket PC device to feature the Opera browser. The device featuring the final version of Opera 8.5 for PPC will be available in Japan in mid-January. And yes, that is also when we will have the public, downloadable version available from opera.com!

Opera for Windows Mobile 5.0

, ,

After launching Opera for Windows Mobile 2003 Smartphone on June 30, the response from users worldwide has been overwhelming. And the fact that T-Mobile chose to include it on their new Windows Mobile SDAII smartphone says something about the quality of Opera compared to certain native browsers... :-)

More news to come:

A lot of people have been asking when Opera will be available for Pocket PC, and we are working hard on making this happen as soon as we can. In fact, we will have the first TP out very soon. This will be for Windows Mobile 5.0, which I am sure will please a lot of you out there!

UPDATE:
I realize it wasn't clear above: Opera for PPC will of course be available on both Windows Mobile 2003 and 5.0 (or 2005). :-)
