2. Employ nonverbal communication. Your posture and facial expressions such as eye contact, smiles, and gestures enhance the flow of interpersonal communication. This lets the other person know you are actively listening and will encourage further dialog while decreasing the likelihood of misunderstandings.
3. Offer feedback to the other person. There can be a tremendous difference between what the other person says and what you hear. Repeat or summarize what's been said in order to confirm your understanding or clear up any misunderstandings. Thoughtful feedback demonstrates that you are actively listening to the other party.
