40 Days of Purpose | Day 12

, , , ...

After almost a week of no posting - I'm back with day 12. Not that there hasn't been good days in between, I just got slack. So here goes...

"The truth is - you are as close to God as you choose to be. Intimate friendship with God is a choice, not an accident. You must intentionally seek it. Do you really want it, more than anything?" - Rick Warren

This is one of my fav topics to talk about - choice. I believe that the only thing we have control over in life is the choices we make and whatever the world brings our way, it is our choice how we react.

Well, when it comes to knowing God and having a personal relationship with him - it also comes down to our choice. We are as close to God as we choose to be. Does that make you uncomfortable? Do you thirst, hunger, long, faint, for God? Is he that important to you. I know when I am craving for food I will do anything to get a bite of something - is it like that when it comes to God in my life? I have to sadly say - not yet.

But I want God and I am willing to do whatever it takes to get closer to him. There is another verse in the Bible that says "More than the richest of foods you satisfy me." I have to ask myself is this true of me? Does God satisfy me more than my favourite food, more than a great tasting desert does he satsify me? Well, I'm certainly ready to find out and take the journey to words satisfaction in God. Are you?

PS. I want to encourage you, to go out and get this book "the Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren, I believe it will be life changing!

40 Days of Purpose | Day 6

"The fact that earth is not our ultimate home explains why, as followers of Jesus, we experience difficulty, soroow, and rejection in this world. It also explains why some of God's promises seem unfulfilled, some prayers seem unanswered, and some circumstances seem unfair. This is not the end of the story.

In order to keep us from becoming too attached to earth, God allows us to feel a significant amount of discontent and dissatisfaction in life - longings that will never be fulfilled on this side of eternity. We're not supposed to be! Earth is not our final home; we were created for something much better."

I read this, this morning and realised it makes perfect sense. It's not just Christians who feel discontent. Everyone wonders why they go through tought things. I have always thought it a by-product of living in this fallen world, and the choices we have made for ourselves. But often people ask me why a good God would allow bad things to happen to good people. Why does he allow wars, famines, natural disasters? If he is God, can't he stop them? These are questions i get asked alot. The above quote is my answer.

He does it to remind us that this is not our home - there is something far greater that he is preparing for us. And compared to eternity what is a little discomfort here on earth.

40 Days of Purpose | Day 5

"When you understand that life is a test, you realise that nothing is insignificant in your life. Event the smallest incident has significance for your character development. Everyday is an important day, and every second is a growth opportunity to deepen your character, to demonstrate love, or to depend on God. Some tests seem overwhelming, while others you don't even notice. But all of them have eternal implications."

Talk about every moment counts! No day is unimportant when you see life this way. What an excellent way to see life - this is when you start to realise that your life counts. This is when your life starts to lift, because even the smallest details are important, even the smallest trials are important, and we start to grow and become the people that God created us to be.

It's not just in the big things in life that we are growing, but in EVERYTHING.

IF this does not give you something to look forward to, something to live for everyday - I don't know what will.

What a great thought for the early morning hours.

40 Days of Purpose | Day 4

Thought for the day...
"The deeds of this life are the destiny of the next."

Life is not just here and now. EVERYTHING I do here affects eternity. My life will go on even though I die. And what I do here on this earth WILL affect my life in eternity.

What a thought. No wonder that death often feels like a cheat - because we were meant to live forever - but not on this earth.

"Every act of our lives strikes some chord that will vibrate in eternity."

40 Days of Purpose | Day 3

,

What is the driving force of your life?

Guilt, resentment and anger, fear, materialism, approval. All these things can be driving forces in our lives - things that direct us and guide us through life. But none will ever give you satisfaction. It is only when we are purpose driven that our lives really will start to make sense and we will start to have peace and satisfaction within ourselves.

40 Days of Purpose | Day 2

, ,

"The cosmos is a specially designed whole with life and mankind as its fundamental goal and purpose, a whole in which all facets of reality have their meaning and explanation in this central fact."

Dr Michael Denton (Senior research fellow in human molecular genetics at the university of Otago in New Zealand)

The whole universe only supports the fact that life on this planet was not some big cosmic accident - but divinely planned and orchestrated. Now that's a big thought!

40 Days of Purpose

Our Church is doing 40 days of purpose at the moment, we are on day 2, so i thought each day i will bring one thought... stay tuned.

PS. 40 days of purpose is based on the bestselling book "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren - available at most bookstores.
