A word on Opera Mini

Once upon a time, the cellphone was used only to make phone calls, then, something happened that transformed this device into a pager, a camera, a music player and a personal organizer. Today, thanks to mobile Internet, we can have our e-mail, photos, music and many more productivity tools in our pocket. Oh, and we can even call our friends on the phone.

Opera Mini plays a fundamental role in this connected world, since a lot of cell phones don't feature a robust web browser, it is very difficult and uncomfortable to browse the web on them (let alone the charges!). Opera Mini puts the full Internet into your cellphone. It doesn't matter what make your phone is, if it can connect, you can enjoy the best browser for mobiles.

Opera has just released the latest version of Mini and it comes with several improvements over earlier versions, the first you may want to try is skinning, why not making your browser match the theme or color of your cell? You should try Opera Link too, it's one of my favorite tools because you can have your bookmarks organized in both your desktop and your mobile. You're at a public computer? No problem, if you log in to your My Opera account, your bookmarks will be there for you. Convenient, right?

Nowdays you cannot depend on your desktop or laptop computer to stay connected, sometimes you're on the bus, on the run or in the middle of nowhere with no other way to connect to the Internet but your GPRS enabled phone. When this happens, you'll be glad you downloaded Opera Mini.

Of course everything's not about work! You can upload photos and post on your blog while you're happily on vacation or at a concert, and when you do that, I'll feel lucky because I could be in the middle of the action through your blog (and please, while you're at it, comment on mine).

Would you believe that this is for free? Please do yourself a favor and don't take my word on this, download Opera Mini now and see what you've been missing and your mobile and the Internet will live happily ever after.

Super fast and free!

ruben,
i am almost convinced by your essay. but i fear the charges more than anything. it would be cool though to be sitting at starbucks, pull out my phone and check my email. i don't like to carry a lot of stuff around. i have a laptop but i never know what i'm going to do... maybe swim. then i'll be oblivious to my stuff under my towel and boom there goes the laptop and the camera... but a phone... almost convinced.

hey, i read your first ever post. cool.

Hi!

I think you're right about carrying your stuff around but luckily, some carriers offer "data packages" that for a fixed fee, allow you to connect to through GPRS, and like that, you already know how much you're going to pay.

There are also some newer phones that offer Wi-Fi connection.

Thanks for reading and I hope that I've convinced you now! :D

Nice post buddy.
I'm already (nearly always) on Opera Mini (We're currently living with my uncle and the extended family and I haven't been home over the last couple of months, guess it will be a while before I can use my PC again. :frown: )

i was looking at the t-mobile g-1 demo and wondered if you might comment on it. my nokia is six years old. but i don't want to buy anything until i get more recommendations.

I think that the G1 is pretty good, it seems like a Treo or iPhone type of device for me, I think that, if all the Google integration is what you need, then it might be a pretty good option, however, personally, I don't like phones with Qwerty keyboards, probably, given to the fact that I've never owned one.

I think that I wouldn't be too open to buy a G1 mainly because of the camera, which SE phones do feature.

I dont like bluky QWERTY phones either (with the exception of the Nokia Communicator for its sheer coolness P:), especially when they come without decent camaras, like the Nokia E51.

ps: My current dream phone it the SE XPERIA X1

Opera Mini rocks. Especially mobile youtube!

I have Santa kidnapped so he will bring ME what I want for x-mas, but I should probably let him go so he can give you your new cellphone.

Opera mini is indeed (along with Pong and Frozen Bubble), the greatest mobile app!

It would be nice that other Mini users commented on this review.

I hope Santa has a chip fabrication plant up in the north pole :D
