Dearly Devoted Rubie

Charming disenchanted warrior prince

Calaverita a los Huachimingos

Estaban los huachimingos
Sus pelusas ordenando
En su isla escondidos
Nadie los había visto

Extintos pensó que estaban
La muerte tan distraida
Pensó en día de muertos
Hacerles una visita

Después de un largo viaje
La isla encontró vacía
Los huachimingos no estaban
Ni sus manchas encontró

"Se fueron a dar la vuelta!"
La muerte pensó ofendia
"...en 1500 años regreso"
Y se fue a buscar otras vidas

Les juro que es verdad

You're going to love to work at Interlingua.

That's what they told us at the recruiting meeting and I thought "yeah, why not?".

For starters, I didn't get on any of the three branches I chose, instead, they sent me to the ugliest and most 70's place in Polanco, the so called Plaza (mall) only has 2 banks (of which I don't use any) and a 7-eleven and just the other day, I sort of needed an internet café to send a report to the UAM and I actually found one there, but they charge like 3 times what they would charge at a regular café.

In fact, the mall looks like any cheap mall of a small town anywhere in MX.

And I'm not loving to work at Interlingua because there's nowhere to park my car and the other day it got towed away, costing me the whole paycheck I'm expecting to get (yeah, I don't think they'll pay me more than 60 USD after taxes if you were wondering).

But today, I found something really amazing about Plaza Polanco, something that made me truly think that working there is worth it, and I swear it's true: This tree has a free wi-fi hotspot. Really!!! I couldn't connect my MacBook anywhere else in the mall!

Footnote: I DON'T love to work at Interlingua and I don't think I ever will, and the picture has my finger on it because I took it on a hurry, since it's illegal to take pics inside the mall.

¿Puede hacer un foco la diferencia?

,

T3h Monk33 Seri3s :: Part 5

Lolo is a sock monk33 that's backpacking at Fedeslavia. He seems to be very happy there because about a month ago he simply got out of the car and ended up watching movies on the couch and eating carnitas every day. He apparently doesn't want to come back because every time I put him inside a backpack to drive him home, he mysteriously disappears and is found hours later hanging out in Monii's closet listening to music or reading Fede's magazines.

So, Lolo if you're reading this, I hope you're having a great time at Fedeslavia and remember that your little brother Lalo is waiting for you with some banana-strawberry pancakes for breakfast.

If you see me laughing

Some Hmong people tend to smile or grin, when they're yelled at. It's a cultural thing, it expresses embarrassment or insecurity. It's not that they're laughing at you or anything.

Preliminary English lessons

As one of the final parts of Method, I had to watch two Essential level English classes. I got to know yet another Interlingua branch (which wasn't that encouraging at all) and since the groups were very very small, I had to take part in the classes.

That wasn't a bad thing at all, taking low level classes helped me remember some things about the language that I took for granted and I even got to practice some basic drills that made me feel back at elementary school.

Tomorrow I'm signing my contract and on Friday I'll start working. It's a good thing since I hadn't been in a real job for a couple of months.

Yo acuso

,

Beautiful Day in Cowboy Country

Sometimes days are just good. Yesterday, for me, was a good day in every aspect. Training went really smooth and wasn't boring at all, I got to pay my credit card entirely and on time, I got to my dentist appointment on time as well and the Dallas Cowboys won their game.

This is kind of a big deal for me because since 2006 I've gone to see the Cowboys' Monday Night games at Cinemex, which is a chain of cinemas here in MX City (and in a few other states). It's fun to watch the games there because people who attend are really into football and usually have a lot of fun. I think that those screenings are probably the only ones where you get to scream, swear, stand up and kick the floor with nobody getting upset.

Oh and of course, most of the people went dressed up in their Cowboys gear, fact that I must say makes me feel relieved that I'm not the only one who owns "that" cap that almost everybody seems to hate.

Breakfast

Since September 10 I've been reciving training to teach at Interlingua, one of the most famous and biggest growing English schools in MX.

Since I stopped teaching at IPN, I hadn't had to wake up early on a Saturday after staying up late on a Friday, but today I had to go to training course.

I think I'm out of condition since I was really drowsy and almost fell asleep for a couple of times. Besides, the course is pretty boring. However I had a nice breakfast. For a long time I had craved some hotcakes and I finally got them.
