Beautiful Day in Cowboy Country

Sometimes days are just good. Yesterday, for me, was a good day in every aspect. Training went really smooth and wasn't boring at all, I got to pay my credit card entirely and on time, I got to my dentist appointment on time as well and the Dallas Cowboys won their game.

This is kind of a big deal for me because since 2006 I've gone to see the Cowboys' Monday Night games at Cinemex, which is a chain of cinemas here in MX City (and in a few other states). It's fun to watch the games there because people who attend are really into football and usually have a lot of fun. I think that those screenings are probably the only ones where you get to scream, swear, stand up and kick the floor with nobody getting upset.

Oh and of course, most of the people went dressed up in their Cowboys gear, fact that I must say makes me feel relieved that I'm not the only one who owns "that" cap that almost everybody seems to hate.

The Wildcat Formation

We're in the football offseason, just starting free agency and prior to the draft. The only thing we can do to entertain ourselves is to play Madden '08 (which is what I got for birthday last year) and study new plays for the games against Carlitos and his cousins.

Last year, a new (well, new is a way of calling it, since it was invented at the beggining of the XX century) formation started to appear in the NFL games, specially with the Dolphins and the Eagles. Even the Ravens have a variation of it where they use their QB (Joe Flacco) as a wide receiver. This formation is called Wildcat.

The wildcat offense, (or wildcat formation) a variation on the single-wing formation, is an offensive American football scheme that has been used at every level of the game including the NFL, NCAA, NAIA, and many high schools across America. The general scheme can be instituted into many different offensive systems, but the distinguishing factor is a direct snap to the running back.

I have developed a super crush on this formation and I'd love to see the Cowboys using it, specially now that T.O.'s gone and both Marion Barber and Felix Jones should be healthy. Wouldn't it be great to see Tony Romo get some hits?

When I get the chance to coach a football team, I'll run it heavily on Wildcat and 3-4 defense

Goodbye Texas Stadium

The Dallas Cowboys, they really aren't such a good team, in fact, they're pretty bad. Tonight, in the final game at Texas Stadium they proved it. An offense that can't produce, a defense that allows a 77 yard run without even touching the running back, special teams that can't recover a fumble and lose the ball themselves.

This was the game they had to win to keep any playoff hopes alive and to give their fans a final memory of what was their home starting in 1971.

I am a fan, but they are a team that can't get things done. Every time Tony Romo throws the ball, you fear for an interception and twice tonight, it happened. Ok, right, he threw a couple of touchdowns, but his receivers didn't really help by throwing several balls.

The question was if they should try an onside kick and if failed, if the defense would be able to hold... no matter the 3 times out at 1:36. In the end, they didn't try it and the defense stood up, with full support of the crowd just to get humilliated again.

And the offense, well... It's the Cowboys offense, penalties, unproductive... So, I guess that, yet again, we'll have to wait for next year, always next year.

This post officially closes the "Cowboy Country" section of this blog as the Cowboys won't be in the post-season and I won't be at home for the next game.

Next season I'll be posting at tinyurl.com/cowboycountry

This week on our program

The Cowboys needed to get theirsleves together and play together as a team, to be dominant on defense (that didn't allow a single touchdown and sacked Eli Manning eight times) and take advantage of all their weapons on offense (with 2 towchdowns and zero giveaways).

After all the soap opera that has been taking place in Valley Ranch for the whole week, the Cowboys beat the Gigants on the game before the last one to be played at Texas Stadium. This win puts them in fifth place in the wild-card race, so (at least) this week, we're in.

Next week, the Ravens are coming to play for the last time at Texas Stadium, next year we'll have a new one

Sixty minutes of football

When I was a player, my coaches used to say to me that a game lasts 60 minutes. The Cowboys dominated the Steelers for 3.5 quarters, but their mistakes cost them the game.

Too much critcal penalties that allowed the Steelers to advance and finally, yet-another Tony Romo's interception returned for a touchdown, when all they had to do was win the game. Really, the offense was in the field and all they needed to do was win.

Well, probably this was the season and the Superbowl or bust Cowboys had the pressure blowing on their faces... again.

BTW, the Cowboys official website gives me a free blogging space, so I think that from now on I'll start posting on the games over there

谢谢

Just another Thanksgiving day. After having to call service to get my car's battery recharged (I forgot to turn off the lights), I came home to watch the Cowboys win this must-win game. In the end the plan to watch it was cancelled but luckily, I righteously won my bet

The Cowboys lost Marion Barber and DeMarcus Ware, who had 3 sacks in the game and now is the NFL leader in this department, but at least they have 10 days to get ready for the Steelers. It wasn't a field trip at Dallas but, just like the previous years, this was a game that you would have loved to watch.

Now the 'boys are 8-4 and expecting the scores of this weekend's games to see how are they placed in the playoff race. This is a team that usually struggles in January and December, this would be a perfect moment to break that trend

Throwback victory

Too much was spoken about today's Cowboys-49ers game. Felix Jones will be out for the season because of a toe surgery, Pacman Jones will return for the game against the Steelers and T.O. got his 200+ yard game with a score.

Today was one of those games you would have enjoyed where everything (starting from the second quarter) worked and went ok. After Donovan McNabb's benching and the Gigants' and the Redskins' victories, the NFC East reamains the same.

On Thursday, the Cowboys will play the annual Thanksgiving day game, against the Seahawks that lost to the Redskins today. I'll find where to watch the game :D

Welcome back

The best part of recovering from surgery, is that I got to see the Redskins-Cowboys game at home, in bed. Today marked the return of Tony broken-pinkie Romo and the Cowboys finally won a game, and an important game that is. The Cowboys played well, not great, but managed to get away with a nice 14-10 win at Washington, now tied in second place in the NFC East, just behind the champion Giants and with two apparently easy games coming.

But with this Cowboys you never know, and althogh Romo is back and the 'boys now have a new top notch receiver to ease the workload on T.O. they can still screw everything up.

Let's wait for the 49ers and the upcoming Thanksgiving Day.

No surprises

Well, as expected the Cowboys got Pwn3d by the Gigants. Next week they're having a bye and expect Tony Romo to be back for the game against Washington. Now with 5-4 stand last in the NFC East but still masters of their own fate.

The highlight from the game was the new sideline beanie that Romo featured and now I want for X-mas

Pure oxygen

The Cowboys got their fifth win today with the help of Brad Johnson and Nick Folk. They managed to beat the Tampa Bay Bucs who fought until their last drive but got stopped in fourth down.

This win is very important for the 'boys since they are in the most difficult division of the NFL and every win counts, specially because the other 3 teams aren't loosing! In fact, the Cowboys are in third place of the division and really need to win and beat the Gigants, the Redskins and the Eagles when they play them.

So today the second quarter of the season ends and the Cowboys aren't looking that good, not like a Super Bowl team at all. Let's see what happens down the stretch.
