Opera keychain solved

I finally figured it out! Like the browser, an Opera keychain has a lot of features and specific widgets to do specific things. The round thingine is a hanging device

Opera keychain

Can anybody tell me, in an Opera keychain, what is the big-plastic-donut-like-thingie for?

5 years blogging

,

Yesterday, my blog turned 5 years old. I have been blogging since 2004 and to celebrate the fact, a nice quote:

Ain't no need to watch where I'm goin'; just need to know where I've been.

My two greatest Opera setbacks

Opera is a great browser, but it's not perfect. In some cases, it's not its fault, it's because the techonology of some sites isn't standard or isn't compatible.

That's the case with my ipn.mx webmail account. Whenever you try to login, nothing happens, it doesn't even validate the form. This just happens in Opera, not in Firefox nor Safari. Obviously not in IE. The good point is that my account allows me to log in through POP and IMAP, so I use M2 for that, but what if it didn't?

The other setback is that I can't access my banking account through Opera, but at least FF is fully suported. The problem is that Opera doesn't support JackBe.

JackBe, founded in 2001, is a privately-held software provider of enterprise mashup software. JackBe's corporate headquarters are located in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

So, I can't do anything but wait until this issues are resolved by Opera!

Vote for me!!!

Hey there you people! I'd like to ask you guys to vote for me, I am nominated in two categories of the Opera Prizes and I don't have a chance of winning, unless you vote for me :D

Anyway, I'm just happy of being nominated but please, vote for me now!!!!

A word on Opera Mini

Once upon a time, the cellphone was used only to make phone calls, then, something happened that transformed this device into a pager, a camera, a music player and a personal organizer. Today, thanks to mobile Internet, we can have our e-mail, photos, music and many more productivity tools in our pocket. Oh, and we can even call our friends on the phone.

Opera Mini plays a fundamental role in this connected world, since a lot of cell phones don't feature a robust web browser, it is very difficult and uncomfortable to browse the web on them (let alone the charges!). Opera Mini puts the full Internet into your cellphone. It doesn't matter what make your phone is, if it can connect, you can enjoy the best browser for mobiles.

Opera has just released the latest version of Mini and it comes with several improvements over earlier versions, the first you may want to try is skinning, why not making your browser match the theme or color of your cell? You should try Opera Link too, it's one of my favorite tools because you can have your bookmarks organized in both your desktop and your mobile. You're at a public computer? No problem, if you log in to your My Opera account, your bookmarks will be there for you. Convenient, right?

Nowdays you cannot depend on your desktop or laptop computer to stay connected, sometimes you're on the bus, on the run or in the middle of nowhere with no other way to connect to the Internet but your GPRS enabled phone. When this happens, you'll be glad you downloaded Opera Mini.

Of course everything's not about work! You can upload photos and post on your blog while you're happily on vacation or at a concert, and when you do that, I'll feel lucky because I could be in the middle of the action through your blog (and please, while you're at it, comment on mine).

Would you believe that this is for free? Please do yourself a favor and don't take my word on this, download Opera Mini now and see what you've been missing and your mobile and the Internet will live happily ever after.

Super fast and free!

Cellphone upgraded

,

Celebrating the release of Opera Mini 4.2 which, of course, I've already downloaded, let me tell you that a couple of months ago my cellphone simply died while trying to post an MMS post on my blog. Something happened to the software or something. I started using my dad's Nokia 3230 but such cellphone just sucks: I never got around to saving music to the memory card or to run Opera Mini. The interesting part was that I got to synch it with my Macbook's address book via bluetooth!

About a week later, I got a Sony-Ericsson K810 and the differences started popping into view: I simply switched my memory card from my dead cell to this one and everything was good again, I even reorganized my Address Book to synch it again. I even got to configure my cell to text on Twitter but sadly, I came to realize that I have no (networked) social life since most of my friends aren't computer savvy :frown:

I've been using this cell for about three weeks now and it's one of the reasons I've been making some videos lately, it also runs Opera Mini and I'm using the black skin that goes perfectly with the phone.

Where I use Opera Mini the most is in the classroom, where I have no Internet access and sometimes students have questions that only Wikipedia or Google can answer, so I just quickly log on to the internet through my cell and run a quick search. I also use it while on my parents' house in ACA, that's in the middle of nowhere.

Anyway, since this is a borrowed cell, I'll be getting myself a C series on February

Laboratory Operized

, ,

For the past two weeks, the English Lab has been under maintenance. This maintenance included the replacement of the switch, keyboards, mice, headphones and server. One thing noteworthy is that all the hard drives were formatted and that means having to install and configure everything again, Internet sharing and intranet weblog included.

On Wednesday, the maintenance was completed and today I signed the releasing papers. I took my free hour to quickly install the Antivirus and of course Opera, cuz I joined Campus Crew and accepted the Lab Challenge!

I downloaded the English version so the browser can be a learning experience by itself by helping students to aquire the competence of using software presented in English. I'm also planning to install OpenOffice.org, also in English (as in the server).

There's still a lot of work that has to be redone on the lab, but I'm only doing it after receiving notice of my next internship

But at least, the lab now has Opera installed in "all 40 positions plus a teacher's station" and has a sticker on the front door

One step at a time

At the moment, things aren't going as smooth as usual and harder times seem to be coming ahead. For starters, there won't be any more Saturday classes and we can't expect our payment from the current one (ending on Saturday) anytime soon. I lost one rim of my car and my cellphone died while trying to send a message on Sunday. Yesterday, my father received me barking to fix his computer because immediately because it was automatically shutting down, thus making him unable to read his online newspaper.

I decied just to go to bed.

This morning I woke up and started to work on the computer, which -it seems- only needed to be throughly cleansed, which I did, and now, it seems to be running ok. I had Firefox installed, but ever since a couple of updates ago, it started showing a strange window at startup. Today, I unistalled FF and downloaded Opera for my dad. I quickly put his favorite sites on the Personal Bar and on the Speed Dial and synched them to his MyOpera account. Downloaded updates for Avira and scanned the computer. As I said, the computer seems to be working now.

I've already bought my car's rim but someone hit my bumper while trying to drive away from the parking log. Stupid lazy person, instead of asking me to move my car...

I've borrowed a Nokia cell that I think will do the job for a couple of weeks (or if I get used to it, until February) and I'm about to finish my stupid course on teaching. This is the last week of torture... the last.

But I'm really glad that my dad's computer is working now and that it's now running Opera. I joined to the Choose Opera group and I think I've sort of have done a good job spreading the browser.

So, it's one step at a time: to solve my issues and to make the world an Opera world.
