The Mystical Adventures of the Faux-eonix

Where widgets will wobble but they won't fall down.

Live Journal

So, I know this is kind of lame, but I don't know anyone here and I so rarely get responses that I've decided to go someplace where there is a real community already.
Livejournal.
So, please come visit me there.

Okay, one more...

So, apparently I'm post crazy.

Watch the gorilla librarian.

Night of the Living Dead Librarian

So, this video is really weird, but kind of funny.
For those of you who aren't total library geeks, S.R. Ranganathan created the five foundational laws of library science (see below) and the development of the first major analytico-synthetic classification system, Colon classification. He is considered to be the father of library science in India.

Five Laws of Library Science (original - there have been suggestions for updates)

1. Books are for use.
2. Every person his or her book.
3. Every book its reader.
4. Save the time of the reader.
5. The library is a growing organism.

Anyway, watch the film, as I said, it's weird but kind of funny.

Why the guys in Fight Club had the right idea

I hate credit card companies.
Seriously, 25 minutes on the phone for you to tell me that I have to set up a new online account when my old online account has been working for the last 5 years?
When I asked, the first time I spoke to you a month ago, if getting a new card would cause me problems with online access, your answer was a resounding "No!"
But yet, there I was, on the phone with some guy in India who was being all "Well, you have to set up a new account."
Grrrr.
It's done now. But I was less than pleased.
And I can't help it, I'm bothered by the out-sourcing of our financial information and customer service in general.
I will refrain from ranting about the idiocy of requiring a college education to answer telephones and from going off about the outsourcing of America.
But it's there. Right there. Under the surface. It's boiling and wants to come out to yodel.

It's Friday, I'm in love.

After work today, my co-worker offered to take me grocery shopping.
I'll be honest, ever since I had my little run in with those kids while going to the store, I've been reluctant to go shopping after work. After going to the gym or running other errands, I'm just not all that interested in being concerned about whether or not someone is going to throw rocks and bottles at me.
So anyway, my original plan was to go to the store tomorrow, do some house cleaning and get some ideas for things to do with my friend from DC.
But since my friend offered to take me shopping, who am I to say no to a car ride?
It was so nice. I bought yummies with which to make more yummies!
I am currently making chicken soup (my first time). Tomorrow morning, I'll make a quiche and chocolate chip cookies.
I can't even tell you how wonderful it is to have some time to myself to cook (which I love, but rarely do anymore). I was thinking I might make some granola and bring it up to Boston the next time I go. It's been a while since I've made it. It's just so nice to be feel like I have time and the inclination.
Maybe I'll get really motivated tomorrow and finish work on my website. Any suggestions?

Current mood: Content

Much better

I just wanted everyone to know that I am much better. I am no longer freaking out because of the launch of my program.
I have tomorrow off and my plan is to clean my apartment and go grocery shopping.
Not to worry, if kids start throwing glass bottles at me again, I will run and call 911.

Halloweenie Photos!

This party was ever so much fun.
We had a peacock. A waiter (who apparently was very very angry). Partly cloudy with a chance of showers, an unhappy camper, Pippi Longstocking's older sister (complete with Pirate Dad story) and ever so much more. There was beer and liquor and a DJ with no clue. A naked guy, a girl who freaked because her TA saw her in her underwear and of course, a newly dead Steve Irwin, complete with a sting ray to the chest.
It was super fun and I'm sorry but no, that is not my real hair.

Death Cabbing for cuteness

So, I have been super busy with work lately. I've been working for the last month until about 10pm most nights. I've been trying to get things ready for the launch and thankfully, we launched on Monday.
YEAH!!!!

So, update:

1. I went to an awesome Halloween party last Saturday night. I had a great time, met cool folks and danced to crappy music.
2. I met this guy who I thought was really cool. But I'm pretty sure he's into my friend the Germanic goddess. While I realize I'm going through one of those, bleck, I'm unattractive phases, people don't usually forget meeting me. However, EVERY guy who has met the two of us at the same time has no recollection of meeting me but can't wait to spend more time with her. Wah!
This guy did remember meeting me, but when I asked him to hang out, he said he was going to NYC. While I'm sure he's not lying, he should be available because I am going to Boston and he lives there! I will, of course, try again. I am, if anything, persistent. The reason I am sure he is into her is because he asked about her during our 10 minute long conversation. Plus, he didn't ask me much about myself. Lost cause, I'm sure.
3. I bought tickets like 2 months ago to see Death Cab for Cutie in Providence. My friends with whom I bought the tickets can no longer go. Unfortunately, I am stuck with the tickets and nobody to go with.
So, I asked my friend to go with me and he said yes. But then, he was being all non-communicative (and I'll admit, I could have called him instead of texting him and whining about not having his email address, but seriously, who calls anyone anymore). He finally came through though and is coming and I have a place to stay while I'm there. Yeah!!!
4. I bought my airline tickets to go away for X-mas vacation. 11 days in sunny, beautiful Germany. I am visiting my good friend, Sinderella and the Germanic goddess. It should be lots of fun.
5. I also bought my ticket to go to Seattle for ALA. This means I get to go and visit my friend in Portland. Woot!
6. I slept for 12 hours last night. It was glorious. My cat, who still remains nameless, was non-plussed.
7. I have tomorrow afternoon off and I am looking forward to going up to Boston to see my friends.
Yeah, friends!!

Later.

Dia: Beacon

A & I went to the Dia: Beacon museum in Beacon, NY this weekend.

The Dia was so very very cool. The collection at the Beacon museum is comprised of major works of art from the 1960s to the present. Located on the Hudson River in Beacon, New York, Dia:Beacon occupies a nearly 300,000-square-foot historic printing factory.

It has works by:

Bernd and Hilla Becher
Joseph Beuys
Louise Bourgeois
John Chamberlain
Hanne Darboven
Walter De Maria
Dan Flavin
Michael Heizer
Robert Irwin
Donald Judd
On Kawara
Imi Knoebel
Sol LeWitt
Agnes Martin
Bruce Nauman
Max Neuhaus
Blinky Palermo
Gerhard Richter
Robert Ryman
Fred Sandback
Richard Serra
Robert Smithson
Andy Warhol
Lawrence Weiner

It was seriously very very cool. Not being an artist, or an art critic or an art historian, I often feel foolish discussing art in any meaningful way. However, despite the fact that I dislike Warhol, they had a whole room which is considered to be a single piece entitled "Shadows" and it was actually quite interesting.
My favorites were Richard Serra who has these massive pieces of steel that were ship like, Sol LeWitt who creates a diagrammatic sketch accompanied by a set of instructions and then a group of trained assistants executes the work and Michael Heizer who had these huge geometric shaped holes in the ground.
Anyway, if you have the time. Go. It's really cool, when does one get to see large scale pieces of art displayed in the way they were meant to be displayed.
Awesome.

T-shirty goodness

I want this girl's shirt.
