Marius & Gina (+Tascha)

the story of us and our little world...

Boa Constrictor

, , , ...

Now this one is the cutest of them all
It's big, it's strong and it's doing at least something because all the others constrictors in captivity are soooo boring. They just lay there... it's like they don't know I'm there to enjoy some action and have fun... C'mon snakes, don't make me think I paid for nothing...

THE RATTLE SNAKE

, , , ...

Poor guy... sitting there and trying to get out. Don't you just love it ?
Well... it will get to a time where we, the humans, we will be in cages and some idiots will look at us from the other part of the glass and say: "Oh, that is sooooooooo cute !" Don't you think it belongs in Africa or where he was collected from ? And not in Bucharest in a cage with pple looking at him while he pees and shits ?
But hey, it's a good business...

Gettin' culturalized :)

, , , ...

Having stayed in Bucharest this weekend (too), we thought that it'd be a great idea to start visiting some of Bucharest's museums each weekend. Said and done.
First one on the todo-list, the Gr. Antipa Natural Science Museum.

We were expecting a somewhat lousy experience, but the reality was completely different. So, if you're in Bucharest and speak Romanian, just GO there !

Here's some pointers on this trip:
- Check out the site and what special/featured exhibit is there. We've been lucky: the Fishtanks expo was featured. Smaller than expected, but .. live fish  Also, live reptilians (that's snakes, lizards and stuff like that, for those who didn't get it the first time).
- Call a friend. Not for protection, but because it's SO COOL to meet people in a museum and explore together.
- Get a camera ! Of course, the rulebook would say it's not allowed. Stupid thing: they think that we would ... steal .... what !? Never mind. Except the featured expos, you can take pictures within all museum halls.

You will/might:
- see gold, diamonds and other stones.
- learn about how earth (as we know it) got formed.
- [cool!] see the tectonic plates and underwater mountains within worlds oceans in 3D.
- did you know about flying foxes ? see them and not believe it's batman (as a German lady told to her child today)
- how about flying squirrels ? they are next to the foxes.
- die of thirst. there's no bar/restaurant
- understand what evolved into what, when, how... all except WHY
- nice infos on abyssal fish (depth of 4000m+). one thing I didn't get though: how did they get those ? I understand that it's totally impossible to go under a certain depth, much smaller than that.
- and more

go!
to the museum or see some pictures

Running in St. James's Park

, , , ...

In London, those little funny animals, you can see them everywhere in any park you go.
But if you try to catch them... you have to think about strategies, and maybe find some nuts.

Covent Garden Show

, , , ...

Now this guy here is crazy enough to make you laugh on a Sunday afternoon. Only in Covent Garden...

And DO NOT try this at home !

Cultural holiday

, , , ...

Yes, it's true.

Many people go on their holiday to relax and have fun. We took ours to learn and get smarter .
This time, we had a lot of fun at the Science Museum, and learned about the carbon emission and how to reduce it. They have a lot of games there, from the stupid ones like "press here to see what Dr. Bouli finds out about the forest fire", to the most complex ones with strategies for saving people from buildings in fire. Very very nice.

But what astonished us the most was, of course, the IMAX 3D Cinema where dinosaurs and giant octopuses just jumped on us leaving us almost with a heart attack....
We basically spend a whole day there without realizing it. Entrance: free. Food: normal prices. Gifts: tons :D (I (Gina) wanted to get Triops, but hey... it seems that I was just out of line... for reasons I will never understand... :irked:)

Then again, the British Museum: big, clean, lighted, white, noisy and silent, both at the same time.
Lesson of the day: history of people in North America. Strange people I might say :sherlock:. Most interesting stuff to say is about the fishermen, with their prayers and ceremonies to the "Salomon People" to ensure "the return of the fish". They were actually throwing the bones of the fish in the water after the Thanksgiving celebration, to ensure the regeneration of the fish for the next year. .

And then, the people in the Andes were celebrating the earth by holding festivals to the "tio (devil) in the mine", which actually embodied the generative power of the inner earth. The funny thing here is that after the Spanish conquest, the miners were forced to work hard and most of the prayers and offers were to this tio of the mine for protection and security of the mineral wealth. But now, the Indigenous and Catholic believes actually transformed this tio into the Virgin of the Mines, which they celebrate for the same protection :headbang:. Which makes me wonder: and our God ? who was He ?

From 13th of September 'til 6th of April 2008 you can find there China's Terracotta Army, for those interested. I didn't catch it yet, unfortunately.

We really enjoyed every minute of our little holiday. It's impossible to get bored there. And it's impossible to be an ignorant. And until we move there for good... we enjoy the pictures.

Babay.

Been to London

, ,

We will come later with stories and pictures.

We got parrots !

, , , ...

You should watch the entire movie with a lot of attention and see how the life of a poor green parrot looks like in our days...
Ladies and gentlemen... Mimi aaaaaaaand Eros...

we're diving !!

, , , ...

we've recently started (and completed) scuba diving courses. Not to mention that underwater world is great

it went as follows:
bucharest - theoretical courses.
We've learned about pressure, its effects, what can kill people underwater and many more. Its not complicated and definitely not risky if you know many things and pay attention.

Bucharest - pool diving
difficult at the beginning it became nice once we've stabilized ourselves underwater. started to make some small initiation exercised with the instructors, but didn't spend much time there. Our air tanks were getting empty due to our lack of experience.

ISTANBUUUUUL !!!

, , , ...

You have to go !

You just have to go and check on the mosques, the Topkapi palace with the Harem :D. The Roman Tanks are great as well. You can find out there about Medusa, the beautiful girl who fell in love with Zeus son and Athena got jealous an cursed her and transformed her hair in snakes and whenever she would see someone she would transform the person in stone. In the tanks you can see two heads of Medusa: one placed upside down and the other on a part of the face. No one knows why...

The mosques are one of the most impressive things you can see there. And the prayers in the morning , in the middle of the day and in the evening just make you think that your life has a soundtrack, just like in the movies. Very very impressive.

And of course we couldn't miss the bazaar. Where it is impossible not to get hoaxed, even if you work there . We managed to negotiate an Aladdin's lamp and the shop's assistant got in a real fight with his boss because he gave it to us just too cheap.
Well this is life... or maybe this is what they wanted us to think. I'm saying this because when we bought a narghile, there were two kinds of: one with handmade designs on the top and one just of fine metal. And the handmade one was 40 lira and the normal one was 25 lira. And the guy tried to sell us the 40 lira narghile and when we negotiated until 25 he just put his nervous face and said OK, but he got the 25 lira one and packed it and gave it to us. You just cannot imagine how happy we were for such a good negotiation... but that only until we found out that, unfortunately, we payed its normal price, because it wasn't the handmade one but the metal one. WE GOT SO PISSED !!!!

That's it for now. We will put some very nice pics with the mosques and enjoy !
