..out of the dark

A festering wound...

...or a fundamental flaw. A flared up infection, or a lethal disease. Or simply a genetic defect?

It's not easy to pick out the right way to describe it. But it's there. Perhaps it simply became more apparent after the recent events? Perhaps it always was there? Maybe noone reacts to government abuse because they expect it always must be there? Maybe expansive assertion of authority is accepted since the role of the state is not understood? Or perhaps because someone is skirting their responsibilities as a citizen?

But, it is something that can be described without placing blame unfairly. I.e, on everyone at once. It is the disconnect.

It's the disconnect between argument and phenomenon. It's the thing that allows people to argue for progress and economy while blessing any initiative that happens to be pushed, as actually causing any of these things. Not from rational argument, not even from intelligent deception. No, it's from ignorance - wilfull, arrogant presumption on a whim.

I swear, if I meet more than one person at once where I live who refer to "Government" as a mysterious, indefinite size of mass that does good magical things for people out of inherent altruism - there will be violence involved.
