Turkey's parliament has given permission for the government to launch military operations into Iraq in pursuit of Kurdish rebels.
The vote was taken in defiance of pressure from the US and Iraq, which have called on Turkey for restraint.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the motion does not mean a military operation is imminent.
So Congress gives Turkey an excuse to seem tough in the face of pressure, and the Bush- administration so lightly criticises the Turkish incursion it would give the Turks more pause if they actively supported it. In other words, this allows the US to consolidate their Turkish interests, while riding on the back of the shias and Sistani + various nationalists to create a united Iraq. All the while simply postponing the Kurdish issue of relative federalism, until things can be properly taken care of with force some time in the future.
And how do they think they will solve that? Yes, that's right - by including themselves in the region with a slightly "lighter" footprint. Mission accomplished! Who cares if there will be a couple of hundred thousand extra dead in the process, as long as the appearance of american interests are kept. Idiots.
