More of Cheney's creatures.

"For Atran, a senior fellow at the Center on Terrorism at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, this is pretty much Public Diplomacy 101. But he's found that the battle of ideas is not just hard to win in the field, it's a very tough slog at home. In Washington last year he was briefing White House staffers on his findings when a young woman who worked for Vice President Dick Cheney said in the sternest tough-guy voice she could muster, 'Don't these young people realize that the decisions they make are their responsibility, and that if they choose violence against us, we're going to bomb them?'

"Atran was dumbfounded. 'Bomb them?' he asked. 'In Madrid? In London?'"

My, how unsettling. And all that just to inflate his own point, as if that is unquestionable in either logic or application?

Next, the unbelievably deep- digging and insightful American press- corps is going to tell me that these people shape policy, as well, and are the representatives of the US outside the country - as well as that they really aren't just faking it after all, and that they really sound much smarter in real life (as Kristol said about Bush once).

Oh, and then they're going to spend a lot of time listening to what the legislators are saying about substantive issues, like.. ah.. like when they're cross- examining baseball stars and chiding mining companies for putting safety behind profits. Heck - soon, Newsweek is going to have incisive analysis on the US's role in between Russia, China and Europe. All cleverly created to allow the reader to expand their mind outside, so they can - you know - imagine they're out there themselves, fighting for truth and justice.

On a different note - I'm having serious trouble with the entire "genocide is wrong" thing. ..Maybe we could just sterilise the northern half of the american continent? (Note how reasonable that suggestion is, compared to the first one - which means it therefore must be the perfect and most likely possible solution - even without looking at what it really means. Ooh - Magic).

In solidarity with Thers over at Whiskey fire..Owmygawd! Epiphaaney!
