..out of the dark

Tim Russert, symbol of American journalism, dies.

,

And instead of taking his role in the Plame case, his reporting about Iraq, his participation in covering up the government's conduct afterwards - and talk about it. And then send him on a funeral in peace. Instead of that, the press- corps lovingly send off one of their most successful government regurgitators, invoking all sympathy and compassion they have left after consciously making their best effort to hide unwelcome facts for the last ten years, such as coffins of the dead, attacks on the "green zone", government scandals, and how they ignore the law habitually. Things that would've been, in a sane world, news. Instead of an application for getting out of your job.

Russert on Meet the press, "Armed with the truth!". Or as Cheney's office noted: "best for controlling the message" - he was a disgrace to the journalistic profession. He had a weakness for strong father- figures, and - apart from writing a book about patriarchial love and appreciation - transferred all of it to the president's office. He was naive enough to be exploited, and calculated enough to know he was making a news "show" for "the benefit" of his audience. He was a bad journalist who used his position to push government propaganda - and now he is dead. I'm sorry it's worth mentioning. And I'm sorry it matters.

So here's the epitath - for "Meet the Press", for MSNBC, and for american journalism. Down there on the right side, it says: "MTP" (meet the press) - pros and cons - Too weak, might be too defensive - but easy to control the message. On the left, it says MTP was the Vice President's choice for an unofficial official announcement of the "real" truth about Niger and on the 12 words in the state of the union speech.

Apple blew it. (American exile blogger hates America!)The short way to go
