...I keep wondering about. And I suppose I have been ever since I read about Hegel and the dialectics. I wonder whether or not that thinking comes from a historical or progressive point of view. Or, whether the historical imperative is supposed to act as a foundation, or whether it's supposed to be a justification for whatever is done in the future.
But - I've never used that question as anything else than a vehicle to question what the narratives are used for, always presuming that no answer would be better than a definitive answer. Since either definitive answer would be proof that history is simply exploited for some reason.
But that is not necessarily so. Instead, either no answer or extreme answers one way or the other all can mean one thing - ignorance about the issues, and ignorance about history. As well as stubborn will to use any explanation available to explain the context.
