Huckabee soars in polls

John Cole at balloon- juice:

I simply can not tell you how much I am enjoying this. The GOP has been pandering to these stupid bastards for years, and every time I pointed it out I was called “anti-Christian” or something or other. Those of us who saw what the party was becoming were told to shut up, that it was good politics.

So why, when another Jesus freak who - in this case - thinks God guides his bullets when shooting deer, has advocated for quarantining AIDS- patients for life, and looks to the bible for explanations on legislative matters - soars in the polls... why is the conservative pundit- species having second thoughts? This is what they wanted. This is what they've defended for the last seven years. This is what they've knefalled for consistently. And now when they've succeeded, and enabled the utter incomprehensibly irrational and irreconcilable religious right- wing nuts (which by no means are "all christians") to elect a candidate on their own, they start to panic? This is just too funny.

Really, why didn't they just say: "Holy shit, this candidate actually takes the entire god- stick seriously! Listen to me, that's not how this works! You're just supposed to use that ridiculous fanaticism to enable our pro- market favourites so we can drink our martinis together with the important people! You're just supposed to believe loudly, damnit!".

You know, it's very sad that they've actually managed to find a candidate that is fractured enough to once again represent the religious american right. But on the other hand, I just can't help but feel very good about this.

Listen: President Huckabee. Heheh. "President Huckabee today wrote an executive order outlawing worshipping idols, and ordered the justice- department to persecute people praying to other gods than the christian God. The White House was unavailable for further comment".

Let's see how far the fuckers and whore- hoppers are willing to take this.

Of course, will the Huckabee effect have any real impact? Maybe he'll win in Iowa, and kick over everything for the rest of the campaigns by forcing the weekend Christians to argue against Huckabee - the real thing, hehe - whether they want to or not. But in the end, Huckabee cannot win - so in other words, what that would mean for the GOP is that they, uncharacteristically, will have had to campaign against themselves, instead of against the democrats. And that, obviously, will only increase the effect that is happening already, namely that: GOP voters to the left of Hitler will be put off voting. Which, unless the democrats make a similar effort to neuter Obama in their campaigns, will mean - by virtue of the lack of real issues and panic the GOP will have when they realise they have absolutely nothing left to campaign on - the democrats will have a fantastically easy time winning. That prospect, as we're getting nearer to the elections, also enables democrats on the fringes to field more blatant and vocal opposition to Bush, since this will be "safer" than playing nice. At least for some.

Hell - maybe a lot of GOP voters will wise up, and combined with the democrats, the US can actually get past the 55% voter- turnout for once. lol
