The thing to note here is the following: there is nothing 'fringe' or 'extreme' about this view in political washington. Both parties fundamentally accept the idea that this is how things must be done. And noone argues for why the entire venture must unilaterally end.
This is because that means reviewing the actual strategies and the approach chosen - and that simply will not happen. Either because of lack of will, because of political common denominator concerns, or by sheer incompetence.
