Harken to this ironically titled first- page story in the Washington Post:

"Iranian Defiance Of U.N. Detailed
Nuclear Enrichment Continues, Report Says

By Karen DeYoung
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, May 24, 2007; Page A01"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/23/AR2007052300315.html

Undersecretary of State R. Nicholas Burns called the IAEA report "disturbing, because it shows that Iran is effectively thumbing its nose at the U.N. and the entire international community. If Iran does not agree to sit down and negotiate, which we would prefer they do, then I'm quite sure there will be united and strong international pressure for a third resolution."

That's right. The US diplomatic corps, like any three- year old who has broken all their toys and wants new ones as soon as it is physically possible, just wants to negotiate. Why, I think we should all sit down an listen to what the US has to say, now that they want to talk. My god, their magnanimous offer of not to scream until their heads turn blue is such, that I cannot describe the trepidation I would feel should the rest of the world, not to mention Iran, not instantly scurry to hear what the US wants. And then grant this new- found interest in diplomacy their total and uncompromising trust and goodwill. Perhaps - yes - perhaps the toys will last longer this time.

Why, if the US would promise something now, or even promise to follow the framework of the non- proliferation regime of the IAEA, it should obviously be trusted as if their word is golden.

I mean, really, can't you see these gorgeous people want to avoid a war?

(also refer to the earlier post on "diplomacy" with Iran).
