FlexCoders, request, group administration

The my.opera.com Flexcoders group is all about sharing knowledge of things related to the flex ecosystem. Are you a Flex user who has a tip or trick to share? Do you code in AS3 and want to show off? Are you new to Flex and would like to write about your trials and tribulations? Is there an open source project your really like that people may not know about? If you answered yes to any of those questions you could write posts for the FlexCoders group.
If you would like to contribute to the group please
contact me through the my.opera message system. Also, make sure to join the group.
If you just have an issue you would like to use community to discuss or resolve, there is always the
forum.

Flash, addFrameScript, actionscript, components

Have components ever acted funny in a Flash movie you were programming for after you added an addFrameScript in your document class(es)? There is actually a very simple reason for it and an even simpler work around. Of course, the method is unofficial so take all of this with a grain of salt.

Flash, kindle, amazon, 360|Whisperings
...

A while back I wrote an article about how to use FlexBuilder for Flash Development. Since I wrote that article I have updated my methods, some thanks to improvements in Flash CS4. I put my original ideas together with my new methods in a more detailed piece I wrote for
360|Whisperings.
It is currently available at Amazon
for download to your Kindle or IPhone ( with the Kindle for IPhone app installed ).
For users of other e-book readers, keep checking
360|Whisperings.com for updates. My article was one of the first they distributed and they are working out the kinks as to the best ways to distribute other formats.

The final day of Flex 360|Indy was a whirlwind. We had the final keynote of the conference in the morning and I was only able to go to 3 sessions ( of the possible 4 ) that day because my flight was leaving so early in the evening. However the 3 I went to were good for different reasons. The day started, however, with the keynote which at Flex 360 is a little different than other conferences.

Flex 360, UX, air, components

The second day of Flex 360 in Indianapolis was a little different than the first. With no keynote, there was an extra session in the morning. There was also a little more uncertainty about which session I should attend. But I learned quite a bit, some of which I wasn't expecting to learn.

Flex 360, Flex, conference

Last year I had the pleasure of attending
Flex 360 in Atlanta and in 1 month and one week I will be attending
Flex 360 in Indianapolis, IN. I am extremely excited as I don't have many people to talk Flex with around the office. Sure, there are other programmers I work with but for all intents and purposes I am the Flex specialist so I don't often get to speak with others about the intracacies of the Flex workflow. But in a few short weeks I will and I am very excited.

air, installation

When you build an AIR application that is available online, making sure the end user has the AIR runtime installed is fairly simple using the badge installers. However, sometimes you are building something that will be distributed to people without guaranteed internet connections ( gasp! ) or some other reason you need to package the AIR runtime with your application. I recently had to do this for a client and I wanted to share with you what I learned.
