Flex 360 | Indy - Day 3

, , , ...

The final day of Flex 360|Indy was a whirlwind. We had the final keynote of the conference in the morning and I was only able to go to 3 sessions ( of the possible 4 ) that day because my flight was leaving so early in the evening. However the 3 I went to were good for different reasons. The day started, however, with the keynote which at Flex 360 is a little different than other conferences.

Flex 360 Indy | Day 2

The second day of Flex 360 in Indianapolis was a little different than the first. With no keynote, there was an extra session in the morning. There was also a little more uncertainty about which session I should attend. But I learned quite a bit, some of which I wasn't expecting to learn.

Flex 360 coming soon!

, ,

Last year I had the pleasure of attending Flex 360 in Atlanta and in 1 month and one week I will be attending Flex 360 in Indianapolis, IN. I am extremely excited as I don't have many people to talk Flex with around the office. Sure, there are other programmers I work with but for all intents and purposes I am the Flex specialist so I don't often get to speak with others about the intracacies of the Flex workflow. But in a few short weeks I will and I am very excited.

Using Flex Builder Linux with AIR 1.5.1

, ,

Since I have posted about FlexBuilder Linux( FB4L ) in the past I thought I would pass this information along. Ashutosh Sharma, from Adobe, has put together a blog post about using the newest AIR update with FB4L.

Cairngorm FrontControllers and Modules

, ,

I use the cairngorm microarchitecture quite a bit for many projects at work. Today I saw, thanks to the wonders of service capture, an issue where frontControllers don't clean up very well on their own. In my case a module was being loaded that had it's own frontController instance. If I unloaded the module then opened up another instance the frontController from the first instance was still calling commands. The fix was simple and is as follows.

Flexbuilder for Linux Alpha 4 is out

, , , ...

With only 1 or 2 days left of alpha 3 Adobe has released a new alpha release of Flexbuilder for linux. Looking at the Flexbuilder for Linux page at Adobe Labs, it doesn't appear to have much in the way of new features implemented. Hopefully it has a few bug fixes since last March. Of course, I didn't have much problems with the alpha release at all.

Install it today. If you are installing on a 64 bit distro of Linux I've found Tom Chiverton has a good tutorial on getting it to work, Adobe's instructions are a tutorial on getting it to not quite work

Sometimes I think Flexbuilder for Linux is just something Adobe India built for themselves and is just sharing with the community. If that is so, good job  If not, what's the roadmap? Is there some way users can help?

File Reference API and MXML

, , ,

I end up using the Flash File Reference API quite a bit when I'm working on Flex projects. While I am very excited about some of the API changes in Flash Player 10, that's not what this is about. This post is about using it in an MXML document without too much actionscript.
