My OperaMaldon Foes

Představuji Vám Nepřátele od Maldonu. Bitva u Maldonu v desátém století v Anglii se stala inspirací pro anglosaskou soudobou báseň, pro povídku z pera J. R. R. Tolkiena a teď i pro tyto dva saxy. Projekt vznikal ve spolupráci s americkým kovářem a archeologem Alanem Longmirem. Alan vykoval a vybrousil dvě úctyhodné čepele s ocelovým ostřím a hřbetem ze dvou prutů torzního damašku. Po tom, co jsem se k čepelím dostal, osadil jsem je každou dobově náležitými materiály: saský má na sobě zimostráz a jelení paroh, vikinský severskou břízu a sobí paroh, kování je z mosazi. Po tom, kdy si Alan vybral, který sax si ponechá (saský) jsem vyrobil i pochvy. Saská je ze silné hověziny a svářkového železa, s anglosaskými motivy a nápisem v runách (deus meus god alduwaldo helpae alun - můj bože, mocný bože, pomáhej Alanovi). Vikinský dostal pochvu s puncovanou výzdobou a parohovými klapkami.
Musím říct, že celý projekt pro mě mnoho znamenal a mnoho mě naučil. Vděčím mu i za práci s Alanem, který se ukázal být studnicí vědomostí i humoru
I introduce Maldon Foes. Battle of Maldon in the tenth century in England, became the inspiration for the contemporary Anglo-Saxon poem, the story written by JRR Tolkien, and now for these two saxes. The project is cooperation with the American blacksmith and archaeologist Alan Longmire. Alan forged two admirable blades with a steel edge and spine of the two torsion pattern welded bars. After I got the blades, I hilted each one with historicaly appropriate materials: Saxon wearing boxwood and deer antler, Viking scandinavian birch and reindeer antler, fittings are brass. When Alan chose sax which he would like to keep (Saxon), I made the sheaths. Saxon is of thick leather and wrought iron, with Anglo-Saxon themes and inscription in runes (deus meus god alduwaldo helpae alun - my God, Mighty God, help Alan). Viking had a sheath decorated with stamping and antler flaps.
I have to say that the whole project meant a lot for me and taught me a ton. I had a pleasure to work with Alan, who proved to be a source of knowledge and humor
