Götheborg returns

The 2nd of October 2005, for the first time in 260 years, an East Indiaman ship set sail from the harbour in Gothenburg/Sweden, to embark on an expedition to China and travel along the same route as the historical trade vessels followed in the 18th century.
The ship is a full scale replica of the 18th century wooden sailing ship "Götheborg" that sank in the inlet of Gothenburg harbour in September 1745. It was build in accordance to the original using traditional techniques and material, and it took 10 years to build.
I saw this wonderful ship set sail and I have followed its long journey through the crew members blogs. ![]()
Götheborg reached China in July 2006, and now, on the 9th of June 2007 it returned to its home port in Gothenburg. I wish I could have been there to see it, but I was in London at the time. But my friends, Henrik and Robert was there and took some photos of the event.
You can see more photos at Flickr, and read more at The Swedish East India Company.
