I just finished watching the first season of Dexter. And, wow, it was good. My brother told me about it, saying: You're really going to like this series, it's a masterpiece, and he was right.

Michael C. Hall (brilliant actor) stars as Dexter, a serial killer working as a forensics expert specializing in bloodstain patterns for the Miami Police Department. He is a police during daytime and a killer at night (although, he only kills bad guys, who deserves it ).

He hides his inner self from the world by trying to be 'normal' and fit it, and faking that he has feelings. There's some really fun scenes where he is with his girlfriend and don't know how to act when she wants him to show his feelings. Dexter feels new and fresh, unlike like those other boring police shows. Finally something good to watch! You should check it out (specially if you liked American Psycho).
