The Iraqi Question

Now, I might take some hits for this post, but, so be it. But, not only am I an American citizen but I have had members of my family fight for this country since the American Revolution, it is an unbroken string. I recently had a nephew return from Iraq, and I know people have different views on the war. Now for the people who fuss and debate about whether it should have happenned are arguing a mute point. We are there, there is no rewind, so, let us talk about what needs to happen now. I've had some opportunities to talk with some soldier's who fought in Iraq. Most but not all, tell me that if the Iraqi's stand up and come together, sunni, shia and Kurd, and then turning in the insurgents then there would be hope for Iraq. And I can see where they are coming from, look at my country, Christian's, Jew's, Buddists, Muslims, American Indian's, Wiccan's, you name it, we managed to pull it together and become a country, but, it took some doing. It took my country a long time to learn tolerance, it took time to learn acceptance, it took time to learn equality, and it took time to learn freedom.
Now, I am about to say something that might offend other's.
I think the Iraqi's have shown tremendous resolve in trying to keep their country together despite those who want to incite civil war. This is a people who was lead by fear, intimidation, despotism for many years. It will take time for Iraqi's to learn to breathe, let alone learn to do so freely.
