Helping in the Household
بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
ALLAH tells us in Surah Ahzab verse 21 ALLAH says:
“Indeed in the Messenger of ALLAH (Muhammad pbuh) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) ALLAH and the Last Day and remembers ALLAH much.”
Trully! our Prophet sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam was the best of mankind ever lived, and really the best example of mankind to be followed. Helping one’s family in the household is the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet and no man should consider helping around the house be below his dignity.
Reference
• It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may ALLAH be pleased with him) that he said: I asked 'Aa`ishah (may ALLAH be pleased with her) what the Messenger of ALLAH sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam used to do in the house. She said: "He used to help with the housework and when it was time to pray he would leave for the prayer " [Al-Bukhari: 676]
• The Messenger of ALLAH sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, however, used to "sew his own clothes, mend his own shoes and do whatever other work men do in their homes." (Reported by Imaam Ahmad in al-Musnad, 6/121; Saheeh al-Jaami', 4927).
• This was said by his wife 'Aa'ishah radiallaahu 'anhaa, when she was asked about what the Messenger of ALLAH sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam used to do in his house; her response described what she herself had seen. According to another report, she said:
"He was like any other human being: he would clean his clothes, milk his ewe and serve himself." (Reported by Imaam Ahmad in al-Musnad, 6/256; al-Silsilat al-Saheehah, 671)
• She radiallaahu 'anhaa was also asked about what the Messenger of ALLAH sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam used to do in his house, and she said, "He used to serve his family, then when the time for prayer came, he would go out to pray." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, al-Fath, 2/162).
