G-Land Chronicles: Peak Season

G-Land Chronicles: Peak Season The term ‘peak season’ has a reason: it gets bombarded by a lot of swell and plenty of trades. After 6 weeks of being in G-Land, I was ready to go to Bali for a break. BUT then this dirty big swell popped up on the charts for mid June and I had to stick around, 10ft @ 20secs!!
The tides weren’t right for Speedies, but the swell direction was perfect for Money Trees. The big question was: Will it handle the size, or wash out?? The day arrived and the swell was so perfect with nice winds that the Tree was solid 8ft sets, with the odd 10fter catching crew out. 2 days of this size, and then almost every day for another 2 weeks it was pumping too!!
For sure the best waves of the season were the last 2 weeks of June. It was an amazing run, with a ridiculous amount of tube time getting added to the tube-o-meter.
After my 2 months in G-Land I had a bit of jungle fever, and I had to take off to Bali for a bit of Kuta chaos. During this time I came across some freaky balaclava masks. I decided to buy a few and try them out surfing for maximum sun protection and to creep out the line-up. It sure worked, no more sunburn on the face, and people who didn’t know who I was already didn’t know what to think! So a few of these shots I have my crazy mask on. Combined with the sunglasses I wore, it was a freaky combo!
