Fruit Salad and Mixed Veg

... blogging the suburbs since 2005...

In my spare time...

, , , , , ,

...I pretend to be a ‘type of mythological being or legendary creature, a form of nature spirit, often described as metaphysical, supernatural or preternatural’ (Wikipedia) with my friend, Tracel.

When you get on the bus wearing a pink dress and caring a wand and fairy wings, everyone looks at you like you're freaky/strange/immature/crazy....the list goes on. No one looks at you and thinks 'There goes a distinction average uni student!'....

Grrr there's no wand!

We went to the markets and one of the guys at the stall started talking to us. He thought we were ‘angels’, so I had to correct him. Angels have halos and according to Wikipedia, are ‘messengers of God’. I stated our purpose as ‘brightening up people’s days by putting smiles on their faces’ :wizard: He thought we were weird

We discovered a car park on the corner of Playhouse Land and Solomon Street. The wall of the car park has been decorated with toy cars. There are two toy cars on each brick. Someone was obviously very bored.

I spent a total of 80 cents on lunch; an apple (30 cents) and a McDonalds icecream (50 cents) I was quite proud of myself. I’m still proud

We then walked through the botanical gardens. There’s a pond there with some flowers and ducks in it.

Food for one weekBored, new camera, stuff, february

Sounds like an exciting day for a nature spirit

wow! that's a lot of toy cars! It looks like a vertical minature car park.

I like your mission  Did it work?
Do you often go about dressed as a fairy?

By kirstycat, # 5. February 2008, 11:41:43

avatar
I'd say it did. I made two old ladies smile and some 17-20something yr olds laugh (at me) :D
Oh, not very often, but most holidays.

By galadriel, # 5. February 2008, 12:07:18

avatar
So you only dress as a fairy on special occasions?

I wish more people did things like that here! I think the rain and cold weather puts people off though.

Although we do get lots of interestingly dressed people around Edinburgh at festival time in August!

By kirstycat, # 5. February 2008, 12:17:43

avatar
No, not special occasions. When we're bored  You should dress up as something colourful then Kirsten! I think i'd like to go to Edinburugh at festival time. Adelaide has the 2nd largest Fringe and it's really good, so the E Fringe would be even better!

rhona- Pig fat (according to some people) and perhaps a tiny tiny bit of milk and secret unmagical ingredients? EGG?! :eyes:
Thank you :D

Jonnsen- What do you say when the kids ask you stupid things?

By galadriel, # 5. February 2008, 23:46:04

I'm not sure. Someone was telling me that some Jewish people wont eat it...
It could just be an Urban Myth. Mythbusters shoudol bust myths that matter!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald's_urban_legends

There was a big advertising campaign here in Aust, about what is in their foods

something else:
While researching L-cysteine, The VRG asked several fast food chains and a major vegetarian food company about the sources of L-cysteine in their products. McDonald's told us that L-cysteine derived from duck feathers is in their Honey Wheat Roll, the Deluxe Warm Cinnamon Roll, and the Baked Apple Pie
link to site

There's heaps of stuff in Google...though you don't know how true it is.

By galadriel, # 6. February 2008, 12:17:25

avatar
:eyes: duck feathers

I don't know about the ice cream but the cone would definately have egg in it Kim :zip: :right:

It's supposed to be about 70% fat, whatever it is!! :yuck: :D

I'll stick to water  Do you ever drink hot water? It's good

By galadriel, # 6. February 2008, 13:52:50

*edit* the ingredients are on this site...

oh my GOD! Is that for real?? Some of those things have the BIGGEST lists of ingredients I have EVER SEEN!! Even things which should only have one or two ingredients (like chips!). The burritos and wraps have so many unecessary 'ingredients' inside them. Glad I don't eat mcdonalds food!!! bleugh!

By kirstycat, # 6. February 2008, 19:43:06

Woah!
Ok, the grilled chicken breast strip....this is how I make it at home: cut up meat, put curry/other spices on it and cook it.
McDonalds thinks that is TOOOO hard!
Chicken breast filets with rib meat, water, seasoning (salt, sugar, food starch-modified, maltodextrin, spices, dextrose, autolyzed yeast extract, hydrolyzed [corn gluten, soy, wheat gluten] proteins, garlic powder, paprika, chicken fat, chicken broth, natural flavors (plant and animal source), caramel color, polysorbate 80, xanthan gum, onion powder, extractives of paprika), modified potato starch, and sodium phosphates. Prepared with liquid margarine: Liquid soybean oil, water, partially hydrogenated cottonseed and soybean oils, salt, hydrogenated cottonseed oil, soy lecithin, mono- and diglycerides, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (preservative), artificial flavor, citric acid, vitamin A palmitate, beta carotene (color). CONTAINS: SOY AND WHEAT

What's with them not telling you what's in the beef patty? 'Quarter Pound 100% Beef Patty*'

I'm glad I don't eat Maccas
I'm not having any more softserves. Thankyou for saving my life angel!!!! :D

:eyes: :yuck: !!

By rhona, # 7. February 2008, 11:16:47

all the extra stuff is really 'preservatives' to keep the food from going bad longer. Can you believe there were actually scientist in the lab inventing new ways to make food last longer...one being hydrogenated oils...whoa. I stay away from those as much as I can. They are in sooo many foods that it is almost a crime.

read this, it will scare you. Start reading labels!

http://www.treelight.com/health/nutrition/PartiallyHydrogenatedOils.html

By angel292005, # 7. February 2008, 12:10:40

avatar
We learnt about hydrogenation in high school. Can't remember much about it though...turning an oil into a fat or something. Our teacher would always say 'NAME AN ANIMAL!' and then he would draw the fat of that animal. We had some weird animal fats up on the board

Ok, so stay away from biscuits and chips and deep fried stuff.

By galadriel, # 7. February 2008, 12:25:05

avatar
How do you draw fat?!

By kirstycat, # 7. February 2008, 12:27:31

avatar
Just about anything that's not fresh has it in it Kim, except the organic stuff.

I think it's a crime too Sarah, like those blue and red colourings. I'm not sure why governments continue to poison us to death. Other than money..

By rhona, # 7. February 2008, 12:29:58

avatar
rhona- Have you noticed there's no blue in rainbow paddle pops anymore? I heard it's because blue had artificial colours or something in it. But now they're NOT rainbow!!!

kirsten- http://biology.clc.uc.edu/graphics/bio104/fat.jpg If you add OH anions to it, you get soap and some glycerol. I don't know if they still make soap this way...

By galadriel, # 7. February 2008, 12:39:26

avatar
ah I see
hehe, what happened to that last fat strand there then?
It appears to be wilting!

By kirstycat, # 7. February 2008, 13:03:58

avatar
Yeah, I don't know about that one

By galadriel, # 7. February 2008, 13:07:36

avatar
Yes..it is the process of heating an oil up and then passing hydrogen bubbles through it.

It is so cheap...the very reason that the food companies use it! So they are making us sick over saving a few dollars. They will use partially hydrogenated oils instead of butter. Studies have shown that people using real butter had lower incidents of heart disease and stroke than those using the butter substitutes. We just recently started using real butter in our family. And I try to read the labels of everything! :faint:

By angel292005, # 8. February 2008, 12:36:29

avatar
You'll need some glasses for eye strain. They print the labels so small.
We haven't had real butter for ages. We have some sort of sunflower oil spread...I use avocado instead.

By galadriel, # 9. February 2008, 01:00:33

avatar
But I thought low fat spreads were better for you? They have the safe kind of fats inside them!
There is always some new scary story about different foods, and they keep changing their minds about it or giving conflicting warnings and advice!!
I think we should just take it all with a pinch of salt (although not literally of course, as that would be bad for you  hehe)

By kirstycat, # 9. February 2008, 08:45:09

avatar
You never know, tomorrow they may discover that salt is the new 'magical food'

By galadriel, # 9. February 2008, 08:47:19

avatar
hehe, exactly!

By kirstycat, # 9. February 2008, 08:53:59

I did hear about that change in Paddle Pops, Kim. The chocolate ones r better now I think. Rn't the rainbow ones purple now, or something?

Real butter is the best for u Sarah!!

Butter's not butter :D

By rhona, # 9. February 2008, 12:13:25

avatar
butter's not butter?

By kirstycat, # 9. February 2008, 12:47:52

avatar
Butter's not butter? You mean they make you think it's butter, but it isn't? Is 'I can't believe it's not butter' butter?

rhona- Are they? I haven't had a chocolate one for ages. Yeah, the rainbow ones are mostly purple (so much that I thuoght they invented a new berry flavour) with some yellow.

By galadriel, # 10. February 2008, 03:07:59

avatar
hehe, if it is then maybe they should call butter 'i can't believe it is butter'?

By kirstycat, # 10. February 2008, 07:58:37

avatar
Hehe

I like the chocolate ones!

I think that's it Kim, 'I can't believe it's not butter' butter  Bizarre. Just eat butter!!

By rhona, # 12. February 2008, 04:13:38

avatar
Just eat butter? :yuck: I remember one time when I was about 8, I thought that butter would taste like cheese. I mean, it LOOKS like cheese so it must be good by itself! Never just eat butter!!!

Chocolate ones are good. Do you remember those caramel choc chip ones? They were pretty nice.

By galadriel, # 12. February 2008, 13:12:56

avatar
They were  yum

I meant instead of margarine  I don't like it on it's own either :yuck:
