I thought OC was free of idiots

This doesn't appear to be the case :irked:

Hi Kimbers

Feeling good about yourself is only the beginning.
With G.D.I(Global domains International) you will have the chance to earn money whilst being supported right the way through. I was blown away by what I saw and I'm sure you will be too. There's a good chance you can still get your name http this is so new.

(EDIT-blah blah blah)
(EDIT-blah blah blah blah)

I'm so lucky to have found out about this company. They were ranked number 37 on Inc 500's list of the fastest growing companies in the US, and are even featured in Entrepreneur Magazine, as well as national newspapers. It's not very often that a company like this shares in the wealth, so you should go see what this is all about right away.

It won't take much of your time. Just click : (EDIT- Was a link here) watch the video screen to get started and it will explain everything

Lucienne

I'm a nice person, and I believe you should ALWAYS reply to messages.

Hi Lucienne,

Please refrain from sending me SPAM messages in the future.
Oh, you forgot the SPAM rules! Each SPAM email/message MUST contain a line about love, sending a photo and sending plane ticket money overseas. You've failed! Uh Oh!!

Well, I do get lonely these days, after my 50yr old husband from Nigeria was killed in a horrible accident. Are you interested in having a relationship with me? Now, it seems you're female, but then your name on your profile is 'Joseph' which is clearly male. Oh that's ok that makes PERFECT sense! I have vast sums of money that my husband left me in his will and I would love to share them with someone. This could be YOU! Of course, there is a grueling selection process. After all, I'm not as stupid as you think I am.

Regards

Kimbers

This idea has been brought up by many members here: We should have a button so we can 'accept' friend requests. I don't want to appear as someone's 'friend' and be associated with someone if their goal here is to spam people.

My first week in Adelaide'We hope to see you soon'

I very much agree with that! I was thinking the same thing.
It should be like it is on facebook, but then, on facebook people can't see your page until you accept them as a friend.

A blog would only be limited to a few people if this were the case, and you might not get the chance to meet new blog friends if they can't see you!

hmm, but it would be good if everyone was still able to see your blog, with there still being the option to become their friend (both on their list and our own)

Maybe we should suggest it to the opera people?

I completely agree. The whole system is wide open to abuse and should be changed immediately. I got my first peice of spam here the other day, an innocent looking email with a link supposedly to someone's blog (not on Opera) which turned out to be porn, and not even the good kind!

But yeah, Opera should be told to get it changed, and fast.

but who do we tell?

Perhaps we can start here?

http://my.opera.com/community/contact/myopera/?selected=feedback

I'm sure if we get together and write telling them our concerns then someone will listen.

But there are also the forums:

By GrantTLC, # 11. May 2008, 11:40:59

yes, he is a lead web designer for opera

Good stuff! There's a guy called EspenAO who visited me not long ago, he's another designeer. I should tap him up as well.

Speaking of the forums Kim, did you report that message? Anything I report gets dealt with rapidly. (ie. the user gets banned rip )

You wrote back :yikes:

 I don't waste my time. :D

Yeah, there was a message on the homepage about reporting spam. I marked this one as spam, and apparently the moderators deal with it. However, if the messages are offensive, then you report them directly.

kirsten- I think everyone should be able to see the blogs, but users will only show up as a 'friend' if they have been accepted. There are lots of 'users' who have never made a blog post, have no photos or information and they are friends with lots of regular bloggers here and I doubt the regular bloggers add them back.

angel- I always write back, but I doubt they ever read it :frown:

 Ignore and delete! That is my way to handle such messages.

But I agree: it would be very cool to have a button so we can 'accept' friend requests.

LOL...indeed, I am not the only one after all *sighs in contentment*

By LadyArtane, # 14. May 2008, 07:08:03

Apparently lots of opera blog people have been requesting this 'accept friend' option, and opera are planning on adding it at some point soon, it's just been delayed beacause of other things they are working on at the moment. So it will be happening eventually

I wonder if people who have already added you as a friend will still have you listed as a friend after this comes into existance though?

It didn't really bother me before, although I didn't find it a bit odd that so many people would add you as a friend when they hadn't even spoken to you before!

It's only now that I am noticing it, when I am getting the frequent chain letters and random freaky/disturbing messages which people send out to all the people on their friends list!

By kirstycat, # 14. May 2008, 07:55:22

avatar
Hmm, that's good to know, but judging by the speed with which Opera are developing their latest desktop browser, Kestrel - i.e: glacially slow - I'm not going to hold my breath.

That's also a good point about people who have already added you as a friend keeping you once the option has been added. It'd be nice to have you wiped from all randoms who have ever added you, so you can have complete control over who gets your friendship. I mean, without wanting to be rude, some of the people who have added me are a bit odd. And I suspect all women on Opera will breathe huge sighs of relief at the power to block all those overly-hormonal young men out there!

Time to give the word 'Friend' its proper meaning again. I blame Myspace and all those other cheap and tacky social networks for totally ruining the term! Please sort it soon, Opera Community Devs! :irked:

I thought I wrote a reply for this...but I didn't, or it didn't work...

AllyG- Ignore and delete is a good policy...but...I like to write back haha

LadyArtane- Nope, you're not the only one.

kirsten- Good to hear that they will be adding it soon

ah ha, I see...
is it supposed to be a mushroom induced badger hallucination then?

By kirstycat, # 16. May 2008, 17:15:17

avatar
Absolutely not! It's about a family of dancing badgers who love mushrooms but hate african snakes. Perfectly reasonable behaviour, if you're a badger.

By GrantTLC, # 16. May 2008, 17:57:45

avatar
Do you love mushrooms?

By kirstycat, # 16. May 2008, 18:59:41

I adore mushrooms!

By GrantTLC, # 16. May 2008, 19:12:36

I'm making a pudding too! I'm not eating it all myself though  I have invited some friends round to feed.

Mmm mushroom mushroom :D
I'm not a fan of uncooked mushroom but cooked mushroom is :D

Kirsten, how important is it to have risotto rice for risotto? We only have medium and long grain brown rice.

By galadriel, # 17. May 2008, 04:23:17

avatar
You need risotto rice to make risotto (arborio is good), it has extra starchy stuff on it that softens when it is cooked, that's what makes it nice and sticky  Same kind of rice you would use to make a rice pudding.

I haven't tried making risotto with normal nice, but I imagine that the rice would just stay quite dry and wouldn't stick together, it would be more of a rice stirfry if you were to use longrain!

By kirstycat, # 17. May 2008, 07:18:45

While we're on the subject of rice, I made myself a Paella for the first time last night! It was a bit of a mish-mash of flavours (I'm trying to use up the food in my freezer so I can defrost it), prawns in a chicken stock and plenty of veg, but I REALLY enjoyed it!

Sadly, I remembered too late about taking some photographs to show you all. :frown: I'd already eaten every last morsel!
