Accountants

, , , , ,

I'm studying Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting is no one knew... I was looking on the uni's website and thought it would be cool to do 'Masters of International Business' Ooo sounds clever. It only takes 1 yr!

"Accounts are NOT bean counters! We're DECISION MAKERS! We make MILLION DOLLAR decisions EVERY DAY! Do you want to go to work and say 'I'm going to make a million dollar decision today?' YES YOU DO!! You don't want to go to work, sit at a desk and ask yourself 'Is this a liability or an asset?' That's for the person at the RECEPTION DESK!"

Accounting tutor

"I'm sure Mannheim will accept your application. If not, tell me...we're going to beat them up, when we're back in germany "

German guy

"I'm an international student. If I overstay my visa, the government will throw me out of the country"

Some English sounding guy in my class

It was great meeting you... I'll always remember you as the girl that bought me my first drink

One of my Canadian friends

Lecturer: Back in my day, we never had computers...we didn't have Skype or the internet

Me: Look at that picture on the slide. Back in his day, he never had an internet friend or an internet stalker :worried: Poor guy

I just realised that I have less than 2 months of 'teenager-hood' left.....

Eek, that's scary! I still have... 7 months or so... eek nonetheless! Then I really will be a grown-up!! Hehe. Also I've got my fingers crossed for you getting accepted! :) (& my blog's back now.)

Ooo I'll take a look

Thanks Sez! Are you thinking of going on exchange at all? I know a German girl studying law at your uni. There were quite a few Danish guys doing law there too last semester. Whenever I walked down Rundle street, I'd always see them.

*cry*

I wrote a big comment on your blog but what's with that 'open ID' thing? It says I have the wrong url for the box...?

Aw LAME. I have no idea about the open ID thing =/ I would have left anonymous up... but stupid anonymous is CRAP. So I don't know :(

And I was thinking of doing an exchange (to Germany, of course!) but I think that I'd get too lonely doing it, so now my plan is to go to Europe in 2010 and stay in Germany for a while :)

:frown:

Sounds like a plan! Although, I'm sure you wouldn't get lonely there!

I love the quote of the Accounting tutor ! Brings me back to when I was painfully trying to do a degree in architecture. Gee that was so tough, you had think, breathe, speak, sweat architecture 250% 24/7 to maybe eventually succeed. A ratio of 500 do start the thing and only 20 will finish it. After your 5 five years, the 20 ones left had an ego the size of the profit of BHP Billiton. Exactly like the lecturer who was also a well known architect back then, sort of "Myself and I did this and that ..."
So when someone asked why we had to endure all of this hard work, he went : "We are here to design skyscrapers, GIANT PUBLIC LIBRARIES and PARLIAMENTS in third world countries. You want to be an architect who designs in a plane ! Not one who does his design on a bike ! Do you really want to design the carport of your neighbour or what ? Is it all the ambition you've got ? If it is so, you'd be better off SELLING ORANGES !!!
I never sold any oranges but I think 2 weeks later I was out of Uni, looking for a job. Too bad for the BHP Billiton ego !

galadriel 28. August 2008, 23:44

Hi ozmargot. Your lecturer sounds funny. We have architecture students at my uni and they get to make models of buildings and stuff. It looks like fun but it's really hard.

Well, I'd like to sell oranges because I like to eat them. If no one bought the oranges, I could eat them or make them into juice

There's a fine line between passion and insanity. I think those lecturers have crossed it.

galadriel 3. September 2008, 07:29

Yeah I think so. They've been at uni too long. However, at least lecturers and tutors at my uni have been in the work force (the accounting staff are accountants, the law staff are lawyers etc). at high school the teachers just knew stuff but had never gotten a job from it. I doubt the biology teachers at high school had ever worked in a lab!

Do you have orange trees in SA ? We're lucky to have them here as well as lemon trees. I guess if it ever frost they die but here in WA it never frost. So when winter starts, orange from the backyard galore ! They're absolutely impossible to peel off with your fingers, so you have to use a knife. Incredible taste and 100% organic !

Mickeyjoe_irl 4. September 2008, 00:19

I've had lecturers like that too. Not at my current college though. Frankly that intensity just put me off. It's great you believe your class is the most important thing at university, but I've got six other subjects... and a life.

galadriel 4. September 2008, 11:40

ozmargot- Yes, we do  My grandma has one in her backyard and she has been picking oranges for us. They definately taste a lot different from the ones in the shop!
Yes, I've noticed that too. The skin is much thicker, hey?
We have lemon trees too

Mickey- I see you've been busy commenting on my blog! You have 6 subjects? That's a LOT! I do 4, which is full time, as you're supposed to spend 10 hours on each subject per week. there's so much work :frown: How long are you supposed to spend on each of your subjects?

Mickeyjoe_irl 4. September 2008, 13:31

Trying to get caught up on all my watches before I have to go back to school. I suppose, it doesn't feel so bad. They say that you should spend two hours for every hour of class time. I never seriously kept track of how much time I spent. I just kept working until my work was done.
