Fruit Salad and Mixed Veg

... blogging the suburbs since 2005...

Week 10 in photos

After 4 hours,I think I've finished my law assignment *jump* :D So now I can blog  I'm doing a subject where we look at aspects of law affecting companies, under the wonderful Corporations Act 2001. For the exam, I have to print out the required sections of the act. One guy from my tutorial printed it out and it cost him $10 in print money!!

On Saturday night I commented on one girl's head band 'Hey, that's a nice headband!' and then she gave it to me

I'm still walking up the hill (you can see it in the distance here). I like the gates they have at this 'park': one for the human and a litle one for the dog

Some of the orchids are still flowering too. They get hardly any water here, the soil doesn't have any nutrients but they seem to grow somehow. If you tried to grow them in your garden at home, you'd fail miserably.

This is what the Adelaide traffic control centre looks like. Lots of screens

Fritz, the crazy German guy who you've never heard of before is ALREADY exporting Christmas Stollen to Australia! Actually, the Adelaide City council seems a bit crazy too; they've already put up Christmas decorations in the city centre (American/Canadian translation: downtown)!

Last night I cooked a recipe from 'Jamies Ministry of Food'; chicken with prosciutto. It tasted really good, except for the fact that the ham was really salty! Next time: unsalty ham.

And that concludes today's blog post. Now I've got to finish my accounting theory assignment.....

Ahh I nearly forgot! It's time for a German lesson :D
  • Ich esse gern Stollen=I like to eat stollen
  • ...wenn es Ihnen gerade passt=When it suits you. So you can say....'Sie koennen essen wenn es Ihnen gerade passt'??? (German people, please correct me if I am wrong  ) And the impolite is 'Du kannst essen wenn es DIR gerade passt.????
  • Schutzengel= guardian angel So, 'Fahre nie schneller als dein Schutzengel fliegen kann'...which means 'Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly'

Haha, ein ChristmasStollen... Wir essen ihn hier sehr oft um die Weihnachtszeit... After 3 weeks its just like: :yuck:

tCfkaDA 17. October 2008, 04:41

Man kann auch sagen "...wann es Ihnen/dir passt."
("wann" = more emphasis to the time aspect)

"Sie koennen essen, wenn es Ihnen gerade passt."

Btw. I've seen the first Christmas things like Lebkuchen and Schokoladenweihnachtsmänner in stores around the end of September :yuck:

galadriel 17. October 2008, 05:25

schmienz- haha That's funny. Australia doesn't have any 'Christmas foods' like Germany does. We also have no Christmas markets :frown:

tCfkaDA- Long time no see! Thanks for your help. I'll try to remember 'wenn' "Schokoladenweihnachtsmänner" I think it's funny how in German you can make really really long words :D I haven't seen any Christmas chocolates, but next time I'm in the shops I'll try to find some

oooh! I want that new Jamie Oliver recipe book too!

galadriel 17. October 2008, 10:32

Some of the recipes are on the site, linked to above

Mickeyjoe_irl 17. October 2008, 18:14

I was thinking about buying that cookbook, would you recommend it?

And thanks for the translation

Hint for best stollen ever, in case you get there during christmas time: Dresden! Wont get better than that. :)

kirstycat 17. October 2008, 23:02

mmm, stollen! yum  I used to buy some of that from the german xmas market

galadriel 18. October 2008, 00:01

Mickey- No idea. I'm too frugal to buy stuff...just get stuff free from the internet  I hope you still remember your 'airport vocab'

Gemini2- Id I find myself in Dresden, I'll make sure to try some Stollen there  Czechoslovakia is pretty much next door. Wonder if you need a visa to go there....

kirsten- When I was in Germany we got some from the Xmas market too. It was better than Fritz's stollen!

Mickeyjoe_irl 18. October 2008, 00:50

 Ah. Well, what do you think of the recipes on the website?

Airport Terminal? It started with an 'F' :left: :right: I think

I was talking about the Australian-to-Canadian translation. City centre = downtown. You're so multi-lingual :D

galadriel 9. November 2008, 00:29

Mieky- They all look yummy  But that's because the 'food stylist' (it would be fun to be a food stylist) did a good job. Yes I am aware of cultural differences.

Sez- I don't know!! But now there are MORE. And there's a MAGIC CAVE and a SANTA AHHHH!

bahadirhelli- *rolls eyes* I wrote that is was an orchid.
