Munich

WARNING: This blog post contains dodgy bad quality touristy photos! RUN AWAY NOW!!

Thursday:
I travelled to Munich, where I stayed with friends of my auntie and uncle. Munich is in Bavaria.

Friday:
I was the 'international guest' in a grade 4 or so class. I spoke about Australia, drew a map on the board, and used blue to show water, green to show jungle, red to show cities and yellow to represent desert.

One boy in the class had his birthday on Friday and brought some cake to share with the other children. I got a slice

The children were very enthusiastic and kept asking questions and then kept saying 'BYYYEEEE KIMMMMMM!!!' when I left hehe.

From the school, I travelled to Dachau. It is very easy to travel around in Munich. Unfortunately, the tour of Dachau doesn't run on Fridays, but that was ok. The signs and displays in the museum and on the grounds are in German and English. The museum is very interesting and it was good to see so many young people there. In Germany, students learn about World War Two nearly every year...I don't believe I ever learnt about the war in school...that's really bad! Anyway, I only took a photo of the sign there...I don't think it's right to take photos of a place where around 30,000 people died.

Saturday
There is a free tour departing from the City Centre each day at 10.45 and 1.45 (I think)...I went to the 10.45 tour...it was snowing...and kind of raining...I managed to do half the tour...and then it got too cold :frown: The tour is 'FREE', but, the guides get paid by tips...so technically it is NOT free! I didn't give the guide a tip...and if I stayed for the whole thing, I still wouldn't have wanted to. Go and get a proper job if you don't like it when people don't tip! Hardly anyone tipped me when I worked in a bar!

The tour starts by watching the Glockenspiel, in the clock in the town hall tower. The town hall was completed in 1908...they just made it look old. The Glockenspiel is umm, not that interesting...The city PAYS a guy to push the button in the tower. High tec.

A Bavarian boys outfit...yes, you can buy these in shops, and the people in the shops wear traditional clothes.

In the marketplace...I can't be bothered looking up the name of the market, there are lots and lots of Wurst shops/butchers.

KFC does exist in Germany...and KFC is always written out in full for some reason...is it the same in AUS?

A Bavarian teddy

What used to be a living, breathing, meat eating bear.

In the evening, we watched Raumschiff Surprise. It's a spoof of many Sci-Fi movies...and is kind of strange...but funny  ....but strange!

Sunday:
Sunday, I went to the Pinakothek Moderne. On Sundays, entry is only 1 Euro, compared to 9 Euro-something on other days. Unfortunately, architecture and design exhibitions were not open :frown: So, I looked at modern art instead and furniture desgn. I like furniture. There were a lot of chairs there...

Chairs, chairs, chairs...they're very useful things, if we didn't have chairs, what would we use...to *realises it wont rhyme*...sit on... *slightly disappointed in the rhyme*

The museum

If you visit the museum, you will be asked to store your bag and umbrella in the wardrobe areas, for a fee of 0.70 Euro. This is a museum including DESIGN...ok...Then WHY are the 'bag hangers' in the toilets (you know those things on the door in the toilet, that you can hang your bag on, so it doesn't touch the ground...?)...very un-hangery? My bag slid off the bag hanger, because there is no circle chunk on the end of the hanger, to stop the bag from sliding off! Another thing...WHY do people design such stupid basin taps?! I never know how to use them...are you supposed to turn the top, press the top...how do I turn the tap off? Do I just leave it, or do I need to turn/push the top? *shakes head* P:

On Sunday, nealry everything is closed...you can't buy hot Maroni...*searches for english*...chestnuts(?)!

A colourful building

3 degrees: perfect weather for sitting outside!

Didn't you learn anything from trips to the airport?! Don't leave your baggage, little table and umbrella UNATTENDED!!!!

When renovating buildings, 'they' place pictures of buildings OVER the building being renovated...

Noodles with bite. HAAAA HAAAAA

Munich is a pretty cool city...but it would be much better if the weather was warmer!

Now it's BED TIME!

I love Munich, it's one of my favourite German cities! Also... bags, bags, bags, they're very useful things! If we didn't have bags, what would we use, to put a lot of things in! Hahaha!

I hated going to Dachau though. It was just so... sad. You know? I went on a tour, and just wow. :(

Neat, my family did a big tour of Europe and we started in Munich. The first restaurant we went to was McDonalds.

We visited Dachau too. It was not fun, but in a way I'm glad we did.
