I assume many of you have seen the DOVE advertisements which focus on 'inner beauty' and how girls are being exposed to 'unrealistic' images of women, the photoshopping of women etc etc.
For example, here is one video:
On the DOVE website there are various articles and information about self esteem. I remember reading on the website that they use minimal photoshopping and use 'real women' in campaigns. Ok, sounds good and it sells. Well, not to me: 1. I buy whatever stuff is the cheapest and 2. I just use soap, shampoo and moisturiser and not 100000 other products.
Interesting to note that DOVE is owned by UNILEVER which also owns LYNX.
LYNX sells deoderant to men. Do you think men are going to buy deoderant if the advertisements contain 'real woman'? NO!
Not sure if I can post pictures here, after reading the terms and conditions....These girls on the LYNX website don't look like 'real girls' or like any of the girls on the DOVE website. I don't find these girls attractive; they look quite normal and have bad hair but you know what I mean.
Yep.
I'm not saying that advertising using 'real women' is better than using photoshopped models or vise versa. I find it interesting to see how the marketing strategies of these two companies, owned by the same company are completely different. They know how to target their particular target group.
