October 10 involved eating chocolate birthday cake and drinking espresso for breakfast.

The plan was to go to the gym, but at the apartment there was no water. This resulted me in not going to the gym. There are showers at the gym but 1. You have to pay 50 cents/5 minutes 2. You need 'shower shoes' and 3. I don't want people seeing me.

Instead I went into the city and had a look in the Bielefelder H&M. Once again the clothes were all too ugly or big for me. From there I visited the market where I bought a pumpkin, beetroot and apples. I like markets

In the evening I helped my favourite German hang photos on walls in a cafe for an exhibition. After hanging 20 photos on the wall we were pretty good at hanging photos on the wall  At first the exhibition room was full of furniture and the floor was dirty, but somehow we managed to make the room look decent. Team work!

At the exhibition I met a girl from Belarus (?Weissrussland?) who makes her own clothes. I wish I would make my own clothes... I can only make my own postcard holding thing and baked goods :frown: Failure.

Friday night there was a party at the apartment. I have no problem socialising in Australia but here I find it so hard. I don't know if it is the language barrier or the people or what. In Australia, I will go to a party of some random (ok not quite random, some friends of a guy I met ONCE...and he wasn't even at the party) people from Facebook and I'll have a great time. But here I find I don't fit in for some reason. If I am with 2-3 people in a non-party situation then I can make conversation. Otherwise, I'm quite socially retarded.

I'm just going to blame it on alcohol and smoking. At the party I would say 90% of the people smoked and 99% drank. I didn't do any of these things. I sat in the corner where it was warm (heater) and made conversation with people. Ok, so I did actually talk to people, so I wasn't 100% socially retarded. Some guy taught me about 'street credibility', another about 'If your house burnt down in a fire, how many of your friends would actually help you?' and one girl spoke to me in a thick Polish+German accent and I didn't understand a thing.

What annoys me is when people ask 'Do you smoke?' No. I don't yet have a good excuse to say to people. 'My grandpa died from smoking. He had respiratory problems and died by choking on his own blood. I saw him connected up to machines and sitting in a hospital pretty much all my childhood' is probably a bit too graphic. With the drinking, I tell them that I used to be an alcoholic and that I am now not drinking at all. I don't drink and that's why I don't fit into H&M :D

I have a problem with the whole thing of drinking so much that you appear to be a complete jerk. One individual decided that he wanted everyone to follow him to another party. To tell this to the group he stood on the dining table, not taking notice of what was on the table...no one listened to him, so to get attention he threw a bottle out of wine out the window. EHHHH? How old are you? What kind of behaviour is this? You expect people to take you seriously? *totally does not understand* No responsible service of alcohol there :|

This is enough of this topic before I write stuff that offends people and discusses how girls who drink excessively don't seem to have chins.

At sometime during the night I realised I was feeling not that good and that I was cold...so I ate a bit of bread...then noticed I had a stomach ache and didn't feel so good...visited the bathroom thinking I would be sick...but wasn't...then I realised I was shaking and couldn't stop shaking. So I went to bed...and was still shaking :frown: But then the next day I felt all better  Weird.

October 8

Yes, I have been bad with updating because I didn't have my computer with me on the weekend :O

My 77 cent lunch

My Greek friend Miss O visited me on Thursday afternoon to say goodbye to me. I've known her for around a month now, through Couchsurfing. She even got me a present; some sock/sandals :D ....and something else, but I can't tell you what it is at this moment.

The socks

I made my way over the river to Harburg where I jumped into a complete stranger's car and travelled to Bielefeld. On the way there no one spoke, so I began to analyse the songs on the radio: chord progressions, base lines etc. Yes, I was bored. However, the light out the window was very beautiful, especially when it was shining on the paddocks to the side of the Autobahn.

Packet cake factory

I'm so excited! I'm going on a tour of a packet cake factory next Tuesday!!! :D :D

Rocks

These 'rocks' are actually some sort of lolly thing. Dried apriots or almonds surrounded by sugary stuff which looks like rock/stone... Can't say that I'm a fan.

Now to cook some lunch. Today I bought bok choy for 50 cents and noodles with flavouring for 27 cents. A very cheap lunch

Marketing

I assume many of you have seen the DOVE advertisements which focus on 'inner beauty' and how girls are being exposed to 'unrealistic' images of women, the photoshopping of women etc etc.

For example, here is one video:

On the DOVE website there are various articles and information about self esteem. I remember reading on the website that they use minimal photoshopping and use 'real women' in campaigns. Ok, sounds good and it sells. Well, not to me: 1. I buy whatever stuff is the cheapest and 2. I just use soap, shampoo and moisturiser and not 100000 other products.

Interesting to note that DOVE is owned by UNILEVER which also owns LYNX.

LYNX sells deoderant to men. Do you think men are going to buy deoderant if the advertisements contain 'real woman'? NO!

Not sure if I can post pictures here, after reading the terms and conditions....These girls on the LYNX website don't look like 'real girls' or like any of the girls on the DOVE website. I don't find these girls attractive; they look quite normal and have bad hair but you know what I mean.

Yep.

I'm not saying that advertising using 'real women' is better than using photoshopped models or vise versa. I find it interesting to see how the marketing strategies of these two companies, owned by the same company are completely different. They know how to target their particular target group.

Oct 7th

Today was a nice day:) Ok, the weather was rather bad but I had a nice time. The weather has changed evry quickly. I now wear my jacket, schal and sometimes gloves. It's rather depressing....

Today I met with 3 couchsurfers....

Couchsurfer 1:
We met for Bubble Tea  Today I drank a mango bubble tea with tapioca pearls. Not as good as taro...Mmmm taro;) We discussed textures of tomatoes, dead-end jobs and what it is like to have freedom and sometimes how it isn't as good as you think.

Couchsurfer 2:
We cooked pancakes at my apartment and talked about professional scissors, pancake rolling, Eric Banna and lactose free milk.

Couchsurfer 3:
Couchsurfer 3 visited to cut my hair. She did quite a good job:) In exchange, I showed her how to bake ANZAC biscuits. We discussed strange people on couchsurfing and retail workers.
The haircut/baking idea was really cool:) For one there was an 'experience' when having my haircut.

I have a sore throat:(
